Vany7777 if you cleaned with all the cleaning files then the problem is there. The files nForce and ATI IGP, should only be run if you have any of those and did uninstall it. The problems with those is that it also uses things that are on other motherboards. like raid chips and such. Also in the help file there is a FAQ there you can find a list what cleaning file is for what. So you problem is indeed a user error, you cleaned your system to much with filters that are not needed.

war59312 fow that hide and show details that should be possible to add, but for the more cleaning filters i have to look.

Well, then it would seem the ATI IGP cleaning was what did my PC in. Thank you for the clarification!

tried it and works wonderfuly
maybe in the next version you could add a feature to the live update that would tell you what new updated files there are instead of just listing that there are say 3 updates and maybe have the backup features on by default or on startup when you run the app for the first time to ask if you want to enable all the backup features or turn them off, also about the live update include an option of auto updating and inform you that there are updates instead of you having to do a manual update or add a feature to check for auto updates every xxx days or have the ability to turn it off.

Ok i see some good ideas from all of you. I will work on a plan for me and see if it is possible to realize it. If it is possible i will implent them, but that will take some time, because i need to update the language files then also.

Well I downloaded it last night and used it during an upgrade from omega's 4.9 to 4.12. Not sure if 4.12 loads easier or of this program is better, but that was the smoothest driver upgrade that I can remember.

I Had Problems With Driver Cleaner Pro

Hi Spike,

I wanted to add a note about the new Driver cleaner PE. I have used the last two versions of driver cleaner without any problems. As a matter of fact I thought my monitor was dying before I used Driver cleaner 3 for the first time. I had so many old ATI files its a wonder my display looked as good as it did. It must have been around the third week in January when the new cats from ati came out. Thats when I checked DH and saw that you had a new version of Driver cleaner. I downloaded Driver cleaner PE, installed it and used it like the previous Driver cleaner 3. Maybe that was my mistake in thinking it was to be used the same as the DC-3 version. But it missed up my computer. I did not have to do a Windows XP reinstall however. I did have to restore back from before I installed it. I then re-downloaded Driver Cleaner 3.3, after I made sure that Driver cleaner PE was uninstalled. Everthing worked just great after using Driver Cleaner 3.3. But useing the Pro version it missed me up. Since I am a novice I am sure this was my error. I read all the post and maybe it had something to do with the ATI IGP. Not sure, but I think I checked all the Ati files in the pro version so that must have been the problem. My question is, should I stick with Driver Cleaner 3.3 since it works so good for me or should I give PE another try? I think I download the Pro the first day it was out so what ever was the problem, is it fixed now? If there was no problem on day one of PE then I must have done something wrong. If the only difference in the Pro version and the 3.3 version is minmial I think i will stick with the 3.3 version since it worked like a dream. Thanks for any suggestions you or anybody can give.

Lester40 if you also selected ATI IGP then that could be the problem. ATI IGP is for motherboards that have an ati igp chipset and that should only be used if you want to remove the ati igp drivers. It removes also raid drivers and it can mess up other motherboard drivers, because some of the drivers are the same as by other motherboard brands. So if you would use it and not select that then it is good. ATI IGP was never in 3.3 so that is why you don't have the problem there.

The difference between 3.3 and PE is big. PE has a better code and better cleaning files and it can be updated with the live update.

Maybe you can give it another try and not select the ATI IGP then.

Thanks Spike . Thats what I will do. If ATI IGP is the only difference between the two, then that is what happened. I did not read the read me for the pro version cause I figured they where the same. I will not do that again. I always read the read me on everthing I install. But this time I did not and it missed me up. I learned from my mistake. I thought that the only difference between the Driver Cleaner 3.3 and the Pro version was that you could check all the Ati files at once and clean them instead of checking each one, one at a time and cleaning them. There again I learn from not reading the read me. If you dont mind I have a question about Driver Cleaner PE. Do you use it exactly like version 3.3, except for me not checking ATI IGP? Also, the way I was using version 3.3 was I was cleaning the Driver.cab files and the SP2 cab files each time I used the Driver cleaner. Is this ok to do and is it reconmended. Each time there seems to be more cab files cleaned. I thought I read that you only needed to clean the cab files once and thats it. But does it hurt to clean them every time? Thanks Spike for an excellent product and thanks so much for your help.

Lester40 the usage of Driver Cleaner 3.3 and PE is the same so the steps did not change. For Cab Cleaner you only need to run it 1 time, but it does not hurt to run it everytime.

Thumbs Up! yeah

Hey Spike,

I was wondering if WFP (Windows File Protection) effects removal of files in Drivercleaner?

http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/wfp/index.shtml - Describes WFP
http://www.tcmagazine.info/comments.php?shownews=8032 - TC's program to disable and re-enable (umm not sure how the relationship is with TCMag here, but it's not to hot on guru3d so I apologize if you don't care for the link)

BTW program worked fine for me with Nforce drivers and Nvidia display drivers. I always have WFP off though so d/k if that might explain war59312 issue.

Oops

HI guys.

Sorry for being a tool. Was wondering if you could give a fool a hand.

Ok, there's a lot of software out there. I'd just like to make one last statement in my own defense. Most of that software doesn't require much more than "Next", "Next", "Next".

Apparently yours isn't one of them.

So I hosed windows because I selected everything related to ATI and hit the cleaner button. Apparently I may be a victim of ATI IGP removal which in turn may have screwed my SATA drivers. I'm just not sure.

It's definitely due to using (Misusing) Driver Cleaner. Cuz the very next reboot - well I haven't booted fully since my restart.

Here's what I have:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe, AMD 2100+, 512 MB RAM, DVD Burner, DVD Player, FDD, 1 36GB SATA 10k RPM drive, 1 60GB 7200 RPM IDE drive, Windows XP SP2, ASUS X800 XT PE.

After I didn't read the instructions and proceeded to ruin everything I ended up with this:

Sometimes keyboard wouldn't load when I got to the F8 screen. Most of the time I'd get Non-system disk errors. Sometimes when I had the menu up and running I'd try safe mode. It would crash on asking me if I wanted to run a347bus.sys.

I traced a fix to correct the agp driver.

Could anyone explain how to repair whatever files might have been deleted in the removal process?

I tried windows recovery console as well. I didn't get very far with that.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Full Throttle indeed my program is not 1 that is only next next next, it is impossible to make it like that (also i find that people should read the readme). The file a347bus.sys is used by alcohol for the virtual drive and Driver Cleaner does not touch that file with any of the cleaning files. Have you tried to go into safe mode and reinstall the sata drivers in the device manager?

I have tried safe mode but it crashes.

what happens is that it reaches the point where it would like to use that file but when I say yes or no it simply bsods.

I found this interesting tidbit on alcohol's website:

http://forum.alcohol-soft.com/index....ic=14109&st=40

first post.

What would you suggest? Reinstalling the raid driver?

I would try to fix it with BartPE but I can't get my UFD to boot. I can't burn a disk because my laptop doesn't have a cd burner.

Yes the best thing is to reinstall the raid drivers. Maybe you can do that with starting from the windows disk and than in the console.

Here is a list of the raid drivers that are deleted if you choose ATI IGP
System32\SilSupp.cpl
System32\Drivers\SiISupp.vxd
System32\Drivers\SI3112.sys
System32\Drivers\SI3112r.sys
System32\Drivers\SiWinAcc.sys
System32\Drivers\SI3112.mpd

Maybe you can copy some of them back manually. It is possible that not all are used.

wonder of wonders - resetting the bios worked.

I am now up to date on my bios version.

My pc still will not boot to UFD. oh well.

Ok so I copied some files but I didn't have them all.

All I have is

Si3112r.inf
Si3112r.mpd
Si3112r.sys
SIISUPP.VXD
TxtSetup.oem

I copied them over using the recovery console. Still no go. As you can see I didn't have them all.. trying to find the rest.

Going snowboarding for 2 days. be back Monday night / tuesday

This has honestly got to be one of my favorite utilities I currently use. Its so nice to not feel the need to clean install between each driver update released. Its also nice for me as I tend to switch between my two video cards fairly often and it cleans up the mess I leave behind Keep up the good work guys, this is truely an excellent utility!

Ok, pretty sure I can do that in recovery console. I can just disable it on boot.

However, on the alchohol website that didn't seem to solve the issue. Either way, again, I'll give it a shot and let you know if it's fixed.

Full Throttle i know the problem you have is because the raid drivers are gone. You need to try to put them back in some way or a way to get into safe mode so you can install them again. If all failes then the only solution is to reinstall windows. I am also working on things to split the raid removal of nforce and ATI IGP in new files with the name Raid in it, i hope it will be more clear to people then.

hey spike, I've dled DC pro and wanted to ask a question about uninstalling nvidia drivers on a sp2 installed XP Profressional. I've made a clean installation of xp pro and after the installation of sp2, there isn't any entry about nvidia display adapters in "add/remove programs" although the system indicates the display adapter as GeForce4 MX 440 . Windows might have installed the drivers via sp2 (I hadn't installed any display adapter drivers before the installation of sp2) and now I want to know the most efficient way of uninstalling the drivers since there isn't any entry about "Nvidia Display Adapter" in "add/remove programs".

Also if you could explain "cab cleaner" and the way I should use it, it would be helpfull.

Good luck on your work. I'll be glad for your help. (My graphic card is Leadtek 64mb ddr geforce4 mx440 and as i said, i didn't install any nvidia drivers prior to the installation of sp2)

Make sure there is no way that the PC can connect to the internet so unplug your utp cable or the cable in your network card or something like that.

Goto safe mode.

run cab cleaner. It just needs to be run 1 time select driver.cab and when it is done select sp2.cab

Then in safe mode goto Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager. By the Display Adapters right click on GeForce4 MX 440 and select Uninstall. Then when it is finished reboot and goto safe mode again. Run Driver Cleaner Pro and select nVidia. When it is done reboot and now you can goto Windows. If windows asks to install new drivers press cancel. You can now install the drivers you want.
