DriverHeaven - Driver Cleaner Professional Edition 1.1

Here is a new release of Driver Cleaner Professional edition. This version has a bug fix that Live Update could not update itself, because of that everybody needs to download this version. It has all the fixes from the Live Update in it and more.

Here is a list of what has changed or added since v1.0:
Added:
- ATI CCC cleaning file
- ATI IGP ATA cleaning file
- ATI IGP Raid cleaning file
- nForce Chipset ATA cleaning file
- nForce Chipset Raid cleaning file
- Remember last used cleaning file
- Remember show or hide details
- Brazilian Portuguese language

Updated:
- ATI cleaning file
- ATI IGP cleaning file (Removed Raid, ATA, IDE, SATA cleaning)
- nVidia cleaning file
- nForce Chipset cleaning file (Removed Raid, ATA, IDE, SATA cleaning)
- All languages (Except Croatian and Slovenian)
- Help file

Fixed:
- Problem that Live Update did not update itself
- Problem that show details button did not work when the language for non-Unicode programs was set on Asian languages
- Problem that Backup / Log did not work when the language for non-Unicode programs was set on Asian languages
- Problem that Restore did not work when the language for non-Unicode programs was set on Asian languages
- Problem that Live Update file downloads failed when the language for non-Unicode programs was set on Asian languages

IMPORTANT: uninstall any older version first before installing Driver Cleaner Professional.

It is for nVidia, ATI, Creative, Turtle Beach, SIS Graphics, 3Dfx and others. It will remove anything that is left by the drivers after uninstall.

If you use this program either for personal or business use and wish to support this program, please consider a donation via paypal ( information on www.drivercleaner.net ). Every little bit helps my development time over the last 2 years in bringing this tool to the public domain. See the Driver Cleaner website for a link or check the readme or help file for more details.

You can download the new version here.

Please note due to many sites ignoring our EULA, being dishonourable and deep linking files from the Driverheaven server we have anti leeching scripts now in place. if you want to spread the news regarding this release, then link to our HTML page.

The file links at drivercleaner.net don't seem to work. Am I missing something? The links say the .zip file is version 1.0. Is that right?

If you are in IE, CONTROL click refresh, you are caching old pages.

hehe OK. Now I feel stupid. I forgot that I had Firefox caching turned on. Weird thing is, the page still loaded slowly (I have dialup), so I didn't get a clue that I was seeing a cached page. Thanks for reminding me of the cache!

flexy is on a distinguished road

could you please update your "doc" ?

Its nice and good you mention very often to read the text...but the text barely says anything.

I am specifically talking about "cab cleaner"...you dont say WHAT cab cleaner cleans out of the cabs....you dont say whether you have to select the appropriate section (eg ATI, Nvidia etc.) *first* and THEN run cab cleaner to clean out THESE specific things.

Also...i see cab cleaner "rebuilds" the cabs...but you dont mention at all what it uses to rebuild the cab files ?

Please use a better description how to use cab cleaner.

General: Just by browsing around here i read (more or less by coincedence) "use cab cleaner or DC only in safe mode otherwise you will get problems".

ALso..this is NOT very clear. If it causes problems trying to attempt deleting dlls etc. NOT in safe mode...then why doesnt DC give a BIG warning at the beginning that its best to use in safe mode...or better, does not even work in "normal" mode but only in safe mode ?

Right now i "kind of" installed my Cats5.2 and "cleaned my cabinet files"...but honestly i dont have ANY clue what has been cleaned and what has been changed.

Thanks !

flexy i am sure you didn't read the FAQ in the help file, because there are things about Cab Cleaner. Some of your questions are answered there.

The reason i say in the steps safe mode is because some filters could be used in normal windows and some only in safe mode. If i had to put in a list which can be run where then it will become really difficult to understand for people and they can easy make the mistake of running it on the wrong place, so that is why i say safe mode.

If you follow the steps in the readme you will see that Cab Cleaner it is run when you are in safe mode, but it can also be run in normal windows.

About the rebuilding it is not needed to say how it is done. It is built into DC.

If oyu clean things just follow the steps and read the help file and also the filters section in the help file.

Typhoon121 is on a distinguished road

Spike another great release. I love that the liveupdate now shows what files will be udpated, but was wondering if you plan to put a shot description of what is updated in the new file. On monady reloaded my conputer and installed catlayst 5.2's then naturally wednesday they update the drivers to 5.3's (SO TYPICAL) so I downladed DC 1.1 then liveupdated and saw that that there was an update to the core .exe but it did not say what it did. bug fix, speed improvement ect.
Also any chance of a pre scan. Have the user choose the driver cleaners they want to use then have it show what file, folders, and registry keys would be deleted IF you run the program

Typhoon121 to start with your question about showing what the files would clean is impossible. In the old programs like DC 1.0 and earlier it was visible, but some people stole what is in it and used it for their cleaners or programs. The problem is that it takes me 1 hour or more to make them. I create the cleaning files from the inf installer files, so that is a lot of work because you have to understand the inf files. Because of this i don't want to show what is cleaned, but i can tell that all that is cleaned is driver related and safe.

About the question for showing what is updated. It would be possible, but it would get messy, because i have to put the info somewhere and also add another display into the User Interface to show the info. What is updated will be in the version history in the help file. I will update that whan a new installer is made, so you could see then what is done. Most times it is bug fixes and code optimizations and improvments to the cleaning files.

This new version crashed my pc.

Hello everyone.

I have an athlon 2600+ xp with 1 gig of ram, ati radeon 9800 pro 128, shuttle motherboard nvidia chipset, windows xp sp2.

I had the omega 5.1 drivers installed so I wanted to upgrade to atis 5.3. I uninstalled my previous drivers then I rebooted to safe mode to remove all trace drivers in safe mode.

This time I used dc pro instead of the regular version. I noticed that this version had a removal for nvida chipset, so I chose this also when I was cleaning. After I cleaned everything, I installed my gart chipset drivers.

Then when I rebooted, windows xp would just crash without loading windows, it would give me that blue screen and would say that it has been shut down to prevent damage.

Ive used dc in the past (regular version), and this never has happened to me, never.

I believe this has to do something with the chipset i removed from dc pro.

Now I cant login to my windows, not even in safe mode. I guess Ill have to format my c drive.

Currently Im using another backup hard drive and I set my crashed hard drive up as slave.

I can access all my files, is there a backup dc pro made before I ran it to clean my files?

DC makes a backup if you enabled it. It is in the same folder as dc is in. Also if you didn't follow the uninstall way for the nforce chipset and still selected it in DC Pro then you will get into problems. What you can do is use the windows xp cd and boot from it and repair it, else you need to reinstall.

I always say follow the steps closely for all the cleaning files.

i had almost the same issue after i used DC.

I found out i had damaged system files which caused my PC to0 crash. I used startmenu-> run -> msinfo32 -> menu/tools -> file signature verification check and i found that several system files were damaged.

I let XP replace them by deleting them from the folder they were in, XP system file protection tthen copied a working copy over.

I thinbk my at2imtag.sys file was damaged.

I really dont know whether it was DC's fault or ati tray tools or atitool...

Anyway later i booted in safe mode, did the cab-cleaner... used DC in safe mode...and after many headaches etc. i finally got cat 5.3 installed.

This is amazing since i never had any problems with ATI drivers before and i use them for many years already. I think atitool etc. f***d something up.

flexy it is possible that ati tray tools or atitool did something wrong. I never use those programs. I tested my program a lot and it does not damage files it only deletes them.

Hey I got a problem just installing the program. Do I need any runtime files or anything? Because when I click on the setup it just does nothing. I've tried many different versions and all do the same thing. Other programs install just fine, it's just this.

Kamikid you don't need any runtime files. What windows version do you have? I will also look into the installer, maybe i can see if it is fixable.

I used once cab-cleaner, gives me hard time all the time while installing logitech setpoint or something like that. Installation requires many times files for new drivers from cab. Thank god there is easy workaround. %windowsdirectory%/system32/drivers or windows install cd has those required files. After installing windows next time, I won't use cabcleaner. Drivercleaner rocks tho!

??? Cab Cleaner Question

I ran Cab Cleaner on Driver.cab only (not SP1.cab or SP2.cab). It ran for several minutes with no errors. After reinstalling my video drivers successfully (thanks to Driver Cleaner!), I ran "sfc /scannow" to make sure everything was OK. However, I got many prompts for files that weren't on my XP Pro (SP2) CD. (sfc ran with no errors before running Cab Cleaner.) This is an example of what was returned in the System Event Viewer:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Windows File Protection
Event Category: None
Event ID: 64021
Date: 4/5/2005
Time: 5:23:36 PM
User: N/A
Computer: BIGBLUE
Description:
The system file c:\windows\system32\ati.dll could not be copied into the DLL cache. The specific error code is 0x000004c7 [The operation was canceled by the user.
]. This file is necessary to maintain system stability.

I got the same message for all these files:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\ati.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atibt829.sys
c:\windows\system32\atidrab.dll
c:\windows\system32\atidrae.dll
c:\windows\system32\atidvai.dll
c:\windows\system32\atievxx.exe
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atimpab.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atimpae.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atimtai.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atipcxxx.sys
c:\windows\system32\atiraged.dll
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atiragem.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atirtcap.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atirtsnd.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atitunep.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atitvsnd.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\ativmdcd.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\ativttxx.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\ativxbar.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\atixbar.sys
c:\windows\system32\nv3.dll
c:\windows\system32\drivers\nv3.sys

Note that this system is a Dell Inspiron 8500, with a 64 MB GeForce4 4200 Go. I have never had an ATI card in this machine, nor any ATI drivers.

Why is sfc looking for these files? Do I need to run Cab Cleaner on SP1.cab and SP2.cab?

Unfortunately, I didn't see the option to backup files before I ran Cab Cleaner. (And since I was running in safe mode, my Executive Software Undelete service wasn't running.) Can I download a new Driver.cab from somewhere, or is it customized for each system?

I'm not too worried about these error messages, but I'd like for my system to be "right". I'm just anal that way. ;-)

Thanks!

P.S. Driver Cleaner is amazing! My graphics driver was so messed up that Add/Remove Programs didn't remove it, and even Device Manager was unable to uninstall it, even in safe mode. (It said "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may required to boot up the computer.") But Driver Cleaner straightened things out, and then I was able to remove it using Device Manager. I reran Driver Cleaner to be sure, then reinstalled the drivers with no problems. Thank you Driver Cleaner!

tcat05 glad that Driver Cleaner helped you so much.

From what i see those file that sfc can't find are not driver.cab related. I find sfc also wierd. On my system i have an ATI card and windows always puts nv files in my system32 and system32/drivers folder. So i wouldn't worry about those files.

Cab Cleaner only removes the ati and nvidia display driver files out of the driver.cab and then rebuilds the cab file. It is better to run Cab CLeaner also on SP1.cab and SP2.cab.
