DH Tool: DriverHeaven Mobility Modder 2.2 released

New release from one of our modders, Patje.

New: added support for X-series cards and added support for the IGP 7000/9000/9100
Fixed: Most resolutions should be fixed now (Credit to Azorus)

This program modifies certain files from the Catalyst driver set so you can install the latest catalyst set on your laptop.
Both Catalyst driver sets, Old control Panel and new CCC, are supported.
Be advised that you need the Microsoft .NET Framework in order to get CCC running.
It's been a while since the last update, and most Xseries users will be happy with this version.
Keeping the Modtool up-to-date is time-consuming job. Most of my time gets consumed by my work and The Matrix Online, which I've been playing for a while now and it got me addicted. Yep, we all know that feeling (which also explains the new look btw)
Ok, The list of supported cards in V2.2:

- Radeon Mobility 9600
- Radeon Mobility 9700
- Radeon Mobility 9800
- Mobility Fire GL 9000
- Radeon Mobility 9000
- Radeon Mobility 9200
- Radeon Mobility
- Radeon Mobility 7500
- Radeon Mobility 7800 GL
- Radeon Mobility IGP 320M, 340M, 345M
- Radeon Mobility FIRE GL T2
- Radeon Mobility X300, X600, X700, X800

Thank you for the new modder Patje. However after installing it and istalling the drivers I cannot start the CCC. Some application error pops up (0xc0000135). What should I do to correct this?

Hi Pat,
I'm using the 2.1c with 1280x800 and getting all I want from that version. Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't really need the new version do I?

GregS, if you are able to mod the 5.3 with modtool2.1c then there is no need for you to get the new version, unless you want to see the new looks or so

afsr, make sure you have the .net framework installed, if so, try reinstalling the drivers once more by running the setup from C:\ati\...\support folder. might do the trick

The .net framework is a package from microsoft which is needed to run the CCC.

2.1c has worked on the every Cat I've tried so far without any problems. When you say new looks, are we referring to the modder or the different resolutions that might be available to me?

Well, I was merely referring to the new background, but yes there are some cards that will get more and correct resolutions.

I was referred to this site from a nice participant at the DELL forum.
I have not been able to find any W2K driver that can be installed in the Inspiron 9200 lappy that has the ati Mobility Radeon 9700 video card (128Mb).
I would like to dual boot to W2K and also XP. W2K allows me to use some legacy programs that could not be migrated to XP.

From reading the postings, these are the implicit steps to install the ati catalyst driver.

1. Install MS. net to W2K. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=262D25E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en
2. Install the mod. program from this site.
3. Finally install the later ati Catalyst 5.3 (apparently 2 files on the ati site).

Q: Are there any specific steps in the mod. program to facilitate correct install of the mobility radeon driver to W2K. Are these steps useful for installation of driver to W2k or just for XP?

Please help to educate a newbie.
Thanks

As you mention, if you are going with the Catalyst Control Center version you will need to install .Net. If it were me I would download the the 5.3 package that included the Catalyst Control Center or the one with the old style Control Panel. Either one will work and it's your choice. Download the Modder from this site, Go to the location on your hard drive where you downloaded the 5.3's to, launch the 5.3 setup program, the install of that will fail with an error message and abort the installation process, next go to the location of where you downloaded the Modder to, launch the Modder program, from the drop down menu select your graphics card, push the start mod button and select OK until it's modded all files, then select to install the drivers for you, when installation is done, click reboot.

Hi GregS:
Thanks for your kind reply.
That is exactly what happened every time I installed the Mobility Radeon 9700 driver that various people told me about. The driver would almost completely install and a message that I don't have the correct driver came up and the installation terminated.

I will try your method next. If I can get driver install, I can then reload XP to allow my lappy to dual boot.

You're welcome. When you look at ATI's site choose the version with Catalyst Control Center or the one with the Old Style Control Panel all in one download. They have it listed for dial-up where you can download the Control Center or the Old Control Panel seperate but I usually get the one that has everything in one download and is around 24 meg's.

Since I need also mult. monitor support and tried to install the latest Hydravsion.
Hydravision did not install and now I have a Yellow Exclaimation mark for an unknown PCI device in my device manager.

The Mod. program did not work for Hydravsion vison driver.

Any suggestions wil be greatly appreciated.

exclamation FireGL T2 Issues

Ok , so i downloaded the ONLY 2 FireGL T2 drivers on the ATI support page one was called firegl-8.08-041111a-019501E.exe (Performance Driver(Seems to be for FireGL VXXXX cards) and the other one was called (firegl-unified-8.103.2.exe) Unified driver, it seems the catalyst drivers are not made for the FireGL cards or something since when I pick FireGL as an option i get sent to these 2 drivers, the only way i can get myself to download the catalist driver is if i pick the Radeon card and not the FireGL card.

I have a Compaw NW8000 Workstation Laptop and my default manufacturer drivers are short of a piece of crap, ive almost shot myself when i found that after investing almost 4.5k US on this computer system i couldnt update the drivers since compaq ones where 100% made for 3D graphics PROGRAMS not games, which sucks inmensely.

In any case i tried running the mod on these 2 drivers and none of them worked i just keep getting this "This directory does not contain the correct files, please check the directory and try again" message, then shuts the modder down (which is majorly anoying since i have to reclick trough 20 directories back up to my desktop to get back up where the drivers where)

What files am i supposed to be looking for? (insert name of filename i should look for here).inf? or am i just doing something wrong and if i download a catalyst driver for a radeon then mod it it should work?

I know it sounds silly but this has been a mayor problem with this graphics card, heck the GeForce 4200/Go on my TC1100 tablet PC is working better than this card and thats utter bullcrap.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.

Ok if i use a catalist driver from a radeon card and use the modder specifying a FireGL T2 it does "Work" however for some reason the OpenGL is set down to 1.1.0 instead of 1.5.36 thats the current one with my manufacturers driver, is this intended? or is the mod not working as it shoud? any help would be strongly apreciated. Im trying to play Kotor 2 which in video programing terms is a POS and for some reason it REQUIRES OpenGL 1.4 or better AND DirectX 9.0c as well.

xionixFire, What i'm guessing here is the following, my attempt to mod the catalyst files (not fireGl) and add the fireGL card to the list it seemed to work. however, it also seems openGL is messed up indeed. So what i'm thinking is that maybe we should add the info of the mobile card to the fireGL drivers, I can do that, but i need you to test it for me. I'll try to do it today but cannot guarantee it.

Awesome man, dont worry about it, whever you get it working let me know what to add/modify, i suppose Modifiing some INIs and INFs should do the trick if you can post the files here or just copy paste the infs/inis contents in this or another thread, ill patch em up and see what works, if it serves for anything ive tried forcefully installing the Radeons 9600 mobile drivers (Seems the FireGL T2 is based off the 9600 radeon) and they also "work" as well just the OpenGL is still screwed, ive tried like every driver i could toss it at lol and yeah most do indeed "work" but im having the same OpenGL issues, they register my OpenGL as Microsoft 1.1.0 instead of ATi 1.5.36.

Well in any case im all open to be the test dummy, im not a master at video drivers but i do repair computers so i am very familiar on the guts of INI and INF files so just let me know what you want to try out and ill let you know what works BTW this is the same card as the IBM workstation laptops have so its a small market but a really nice card thats just being sooo missused :/

Thanks for replying and ill wait for your post.

xionicfire, try this:

-get the firegl-unified-8.103.2.exe driver (which you already have ofcourse) and extract it so it will appear as C:\ati\FireGL\...
-then download following file http://users.skynet.be/FCB/files/FireGL.zip
the zip file contains the necessary files (and the correct directrories aswell)
Now replace the files from C:\ati\FireGl\... with the files from the Zip file.
then launch setup.exe from C:\ATI\FireGL

I'm hoping that will work, let me know ok?

A warning for anyone trying to prepare a set for a friend on XP, using a Win98 system - it messes up badly - it all seemed to work, but the result was completely wrong.

Well... lol the mod did indeed work quite well.. however the OpenGL is still borked :/ still shows as Microsoft 1.1.0 which is odd as i do get ATi 1.5.36 from the original manufacturer driver, hmm any ideas? lol

Isnt there like an "opengl install pack" or something like that? there used to be but i cant remember :\

BTW aside the OpenGL fact, the other games run AWESOME the mod did make QUITE a diference in Direct3D based games , tho the damn Kotor 2 NEEDS OpenGL and is still broken :/

think theres any way to modify the OpenGL? the only thing i can think of is grab my manufacturers driver (ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp2...00/SP28228.exe) and somehow remove the OpenGL data chunk of it and splice it with the new driver or grab the new driver from ati and replace the files on the manufacturers one with the new one? lol im all messed up dunno what else could work but i think its worth a shot if its not too hard to make.

I hope this helped somehow heh.

Problem: I installed the new Cat5.3 on my T42p 14" (1400x1050). No, It's clear, that the Desktop version of this Cat doesn't support this specific resolution. Is there a possibility to run my laptop wit Cat5.3 under propper 1400x1050, like It would do when I stick to the IBM FireGL Driver?

edit: done. Read some more threads here and installed the CCC. everything is fine now

My problem: I still use cat4.12. The reason for this is that when i patch a newer cat driver in all games the resolution that can be selected is higher then my max res of my display (1680x105). And another anoying thing is that after patching a newer driver then 4.12, there is a white line at the bottom of the screen when i use a resolution that is nog a native one (1680x1050).
By the way, the cat4.12 that i'm useing now, i patched manualy by using the original asus mobility drivers.
My hardware is: Asus M6900Ne, WSXGA+ screen, radeon mobolity 9700

I'm running a Fire GL 9000 (IBM T40p) and wondered why Java would not enable hardware accelerated drawing (open gl). I used to have an omega driver installed beforehand and updated to patje modded catalyst 5.3 - still no acceleration. I found a tool (gli.exe) that checks the open gl capabilities. It says that I'm using the Microsoft driver (software emulation) => no acceleration :-(

Is this the same issue?
