Files remaining after clean-up

Hi!

First time user, got recommended DC by a friend and it really helped, thx!

But it seems that some files remain, cause some games still crash unless I clean ATI again. (Just swapped from ATI to NnVidia.) These files gets cleaned, however they don't go to the rubbishbin and reappear after startup:

Anything to be done?

Run cab cleaner so that windows can not get the files from there. The files come back, because windows has them sort of protectedt so it will put them back after removal. I have that also. Normally it wouldn't give any problem. Also maybe you can do a search on your pc for like ati*.* and make a list for me from the file names and locations and send it to me.

Hi,

I have the same probl. as RevRog. Many files remaing after cleaning.
Some of the directories in c:\windows are on invisible and read only. The first case is switchable but unchecking the read only (even as administrator) is not allowed. It always reverts back?!

So I don't know if this is the reason or that DriverCleaner skips these files. I filter on all the ATI files (except for IGP,IGP ATA and IGP RAID).

Please could someone help me a little bit, I would be very grateful.

Thank you guys.

I know that windows xp is very good in copying back driver files from some places. Did you use Cab Cleaner? also can you tell me some of the file names and locations and do a search on your pc and see if you find it on more places. If so please tell me where then i can look into it.

Hi Spike,

Nice from you to react.
Yes XP is really our Big Brother.
Yes, of course I used CabCleaner (on driver.cab, sp1 and sp2.cab, and I cleaned all the logs, registry backups etc..). btw, I sent a mail to you on spike@driverheaven.net, with a list of files.
I only searched in c:\windows, but of course there are more files (226) on drive C: (many of them in c:\I386 and c:\I386\sp1.cab

I'm at your service, if any additional info is needed,
Thx Spike for your help

Sam

as far as i know c:\I386 shouldn't be there, but it is possible that you copied your winxp I386 folder from your cd to your hd? Also will look into your mail.

I got my DELL pc preinstalled. And this directory was already there on delivery. So these Dell-guys probably created this folder containing all the XP software, so I would not need the CD when installing stuff etc..

You're wright, it's not common situation. That's why I only listed the files in \windows, these probably will be found by the operating system on booting.

Anyway, Spike, if those files will not cause much of a trouble, I can alway install my new ATI drivers on top of them, and see what happens. (and of course I can always remove c:\I386)

You know, it's just the feeling to have a 'real' clean install, so to be sure that my graphical problems is not related to my 9800XT but to some driver probl.

Thx mate,
Waiting for your point of view.

Now just leave the i386 dir. About the other files you can install the new drivers that will work. I will also add the locations and files to the filters except for the i386 folder, because you can use that when you reinstall windows.
