Ah! I see what the issue is.....I have an old original XP CD (before SP1 even), but I have a 200gig drive and the disk insists on formatting the partition because it sees the 200gig drive as "unknown" and old XP (pre-SP1..or SP2, can't rem which) didn't allow for a drive that large until one of the SP updates.....I formatted the drive using a 3rd-party program so I could install XP originally.

It seems to be AVI files that are still having the issue....no sound during playback. If I can't fix it some other way, I may have to reformat to fix it.

Ok I did all this thread suggested I think.

- Omega Uninstall
- DC Cleaner Pro 1.4
- Reg Fix as posted
- Install drivers again
- Reinstall WMP10 (also added a fresh quartz.dll, I removed it before installing again)
- Reinstalled dirextx
- Reinstalled QuickTime and Realtime Altermative
- Reinstall All in one Codec pack
- Run Microsoft Update

After a reboot I still have the following problems:
1) MP3's don't play, they give the error "Windows Media Player cannot play, burn, or synchronize the file because a required audio codec is not installed on your computer.". ONLY in WMP10, it plays in other apps.
2) Sound of AVI files won't play, neither with DivX, Xvid and AC codecs installed properly. It did work before. In all audio/video apps.
3) Embedded movies on webpages load but won't play, no screen no movement of the bar.

Rest seems to work fine, I guess some internal registry or files have been removed, but how to find them?

EDIT:
I will do my best to fix all, won't give up soon. Hopefully it will help others.

EDIT2:
1) Fixed ---> C00D11C7, automatically download codecs.

Not really, I reinstalled WMP and IE. Did windows update. Manually installed all availeble WMP updates (http://home.arcor.de/carsthom/update...0_updates.html). It gives the error (right click Error details): C00D11CD. I googled that but MS and every page else claim it's an error which can be caused by millions of factors, so it cannot be fixed. I tried to re-register the files related to it, but thsat didn't help either. I gave up on that, embedded movies won't play anymore. The Google Video works, but the normal videos which play through WMP in Firefox or IE won't.

Then I tried to fix the AVI sound, I came accross GSPOT and found the AVI's had a MP3 codec, I reinstalled Fraunhofer and Lame decoders, but it made no difference. I run the K-Lite Full Codec Pack now, all files play only AVI files with MP3 codec give no sound. This is sounds the same as what happened with the other MP3's, though the reg fix doesn't solve this. I don't really knopw what to do next, I removed all old codec manually and got K-Lite Full completely installed, but it won't make me hear any sound when playing AVI's with MP3 audio.

Spike all is working better than ever! Also I learned how well the xp repair function can work - so was a worthwhile experience.

I hope that I got you the info you wanted and didn't screw up the pre repair copy.

Your attention to our problems is very appreciated. Just let us know when you think we are safe and I will clean out my drivers and install the new omegas (just for the heck of it). I also learned that there is a risk in just selecting everything ati and pushing the button. thanks again.

edit: I also learned how to copy my registry (that thing I have been avoiding like the plague)

ronnn i think that the keys that i removed from the filters cause some sort of trigger in the system that messes it up. So the new DC Pro version should be ok.

I did, but it still won't play xvid and divx properly, at least not the audio with it. Here's what it does, in GSPOT it claims all codecs are properly installed, which they should. I got the K-Lite Full installed. I even reinstalled the LAME and Fraunhofer Mp3 codecs and to make sure. I removed the quartz.dll and reinstalled DirectX to get a fresh copy of that. In WMP or any other player the avi plays, but it doesn't detect the audio codec in the player. GSPOT detects it, but when testing it doesn't play the audio though it gives no error. It's probably something in the register which is still incorrect, but I have no idea what.

Hmmm,

I've always read folks in video/audio type forums warn people away from any codec packs (except from Microsoft).

After you did a repair install all you needed was to do official type stuff.

Like WMP10, check drivers, Windows Update, etc.

Unless, you already had codec packs with unofficial mod's allowing DivX, RealPlayer, Quicktime, etc to play without using the official players.

Despite all the paranoid people who imagine all the corporate world is out to get them, there's no spyware or resourse hog in the official RealPlayer, Quicktime, DivX downloads. You just need to adjust the preferences in these players to not use systemtray, message centers, and to use the file formats you want them to use.

Codec Packs, on the other hand, are not tested to play well with Windows and it's hardware and software programs like the official companies do. They have been known to wreck many playback related and who knows what else related items on computers.

If you choose to buy an official DVD codec from one of the companies you're also better off than one of those free ones.

As soon as you started mentioning codec packs I saw that you probably need what a repair install won't fix.

You need to format, and possibly even repartition. Who knows what all that stuff may have put in your boot sector. You may have spyware and worse.

For the future, trust a company that depends on future sales or use of its product more than a programmer somewhere that possibly makes some money for his trouble by making deals with advertising firms to include stuff in everyone's computer.

I hope you are not being serious. I quite know what I am doing with a PC. I got my entire PC based on freeware or bought applications, I run Hitman Pro (includes all know spyware apps on the planet) twice a week. I even ran it today and no spyware or anything else included. Also I got no strange apps in the background, I only run the necessary background applications.

I quite know where about the issue is, but can't figure it out yet. I guess it's just a mp3 codec which isn't linked to xvid/divx movies properly. I just got to figure out how to find the register key to solve it.

mmmokay!

Perhaps an uninstall and reinstall of DivX6Create (uncheck the Pro Trial and the encoder and it's free like the old one's) would fix xvid, divx problems.

You're not alone in using codec packs successfully on a stable system, so no problem there. But your repair install may not have solved these problems because they are installed. Perhaps uninstalling all the 3rd party unofficial stuff and then doing a repair XP install will start you fresh again.

I never have been able to use wmp to play dvix and still can't. I use vlc player for avi or dvix stuff, as it plays everything out of the box. So I can't tell you if that part is fixed, but streaming stuff is more responsive than before this happened. Wmp tells me it can't download the codec for dvix (does this after a fresh install). Anyways for my uses, the repair did a nice repair.

For me WMP 10 will play avi sound (no picture) same as winamp. As I said has always been this way as the one time I looked, I could not find the codecs. VLC player works great.

@Spike, that didn't fix it.

It's a relieve to see I am not the only one with this issue, Rayder and AndreyPopov got the same issue. I will keep trying to fix my issue, hope it fixes it for all.

EDIT:
I just cleaned all codecs again and just installed all official ones, the ones I really need. DivX, XVid and AC3. It made no difference though.

Nope, that didn't work. But I figured since I still have general wav sound that that woouldn't be the culprit anyway.

So far, most things ARE working, but I still have no sound in AVI's.

I have regained the ability to stream WMV's from using the reg entries in this thread.

Same here, though I can't stream WMV's in the browser still. Does it work for you, for example on break.com or yourdailymedia.com none of them works for me in the browser.

Because most of you said that with those registry keys some things got fixed, i exported my key and there are a lot more things in there so try it. http://www.drivercleaner.net/download/PossibleFix.zip there are 2 reg files Fix1 is the key that got deleted by the filter, but it is possible that you need to run Fix2 also.

Damn!!! And I just reformatted too.

Oh well, it was overdue for a reformat anyway......ran for over a year-and-a-half on that setup.

In fact, besides going to Windows Update, this is the FIRST site I went too. GAWD! I can't believe I used to PREFER IE over Firefox.

And just to clear the air, I don't blame Spike in the least for what happened and I will continue to use DriverCleaner in the future. (just not version 1.3 )

I was posting this over at the Divx forum cause I thought Dvix 6.1 did this, I guess not. They suggested running the following command at a command prompt.

regsvr32 devenum.dll

Reboot, and you should hear audio again. If not, you can get around it by installing a new version of FFDshow, but I dont reccomend that because it doesnt fix the problem at hand. I was thinking it was a Quartz.dll issue, but it's not. I've fresh installed the latest Cats, and reformatted, going back to 5.11, and I still get no audio, untill I re-register devenum.dll. Once it's re-registered and rebooted, it should work again. This makes me think that DC 1.3 (which is what I used and got this problem) causes these problems. I went through the trouble of reformatting my system and installing from scratch. The odd thing is, running DC is part of my new install routine, since this was being run before any drivers were installed, I think DC might be unregistering that file, or something. Anyways, try that and see what you come up with.
Big thanks to DigitAL56K over at Divx Forums for this tip.

Now DC does not unregister files. The only problem it had was in the filter that it deleted a needed key. The key is in that zip file posted a few post above. After hearing this prob i went to look and found it with help of the log files, so it is fixed now in the 1.4 version.

Also most of the people that had this prob got it fixed with those 2 registry files. From the others i did not hear anything yet.

What filters did you use? do you still have the log files of DC?

Do you know if you run any other program that could have caused the unregistering?

I checked all filters and the file is not in any of the filters.

use any registry tool that can take a snapshot of your registry, do this before and after you run the regsvr32 command-line tool to unregister and then register (or vice versa) the dynamic-link library.
this way you can find out what registry key(s)/value(s) that has been changed/added in/to your registry.

the problem that you had may be necessary to troubleshoot it using the regsvr32 tool.
the regsvr32 tool registers (or unregisters) the .dll files as command components in registry.

but this does not mean the missing or corrupted registry in your Windows system was caused by the using of the DC tool. to find out more see my post above.
