the pier
the gloom of june, the water finds the shore over and over again
the sky above is so gray, and dark. an old man, with a pencil and paper, writes letters he will never send. his hat is filled with paper and coins but he has an empty heart. he's walked the shore and he has walked back in time. he remembers sunny days holding hands on the pier. he remembers the romance and the joy and it eases his mind. and he remembers facing the world alone again and he remembers the fear. when he could find the money, find the time or the words to make it right and 40 years ago, while he was at sea, he lost his love there that night. Apart or together, we all find our place we look for love for kindness in a strangers face. I couldnt help him but I could ease my empty heart I put a few dollars in his hat, and I left the darkness of the pierside park.

such a lonely feeling poem, but you capture a mood very very well and convey it equally as well.
