To Feast

she lay staring through the canopy of branches and limbs, leaves so bright

of the wet moss covered boughs above her and the trunk that held it there

consumed by the forest floor, the flowers, the shimmering light

her blanket of ferns kept her warm, and the dew clung to her golden hair

the air was still, and the crow took flight.

he perched on the limb near her and both welcomed the night.

the first rays of the harvest moon found the opening to her eyes.

her heart beckoned her to change, to howl again, and to rise.

naked before god, she is neither woman nor beast

she walks the black forest and on mortal man she must feast.
