Prayer for Teresa

Dearest face I see in my mind
clearly smiling as I reach for your hand

across the seas distance and time fall far behind
I am finally beginning to really understand.

a finite life is more than just days and weeks and years
more than what we have taken, or gave.

to know that we face our only companion through our life without fear
and know that we have only our own memories of our love to save.

to carry us across the threshold and lift us up upon the angels wings
our salvation is the knowlege that we truly never go away.

in the hearts of our children and the pale reflections of pictures and precious things.
that we know whenever the fire within us burns out we can truly say.

we never held our hearts in contempt of the truth and loved without condtion
and that we shared our blessings and shared our hearts and shared our very last kiss

we walk a path that so many before have travelled on the road to our own redemption
time is the fire in which we burn and we embrace our fate and find our spiritual bliss.

I dont fear death and I dont fear my God, and wait for his mercy and grace to heal
the hearts of those that have regret and pain upon my final moment of mortal life.

so humbly I ask that he forgive my sins and forgive me if I do not kneel
I fondly remember a lovely red headed girl, a mother, a friend and a wife.

I say a simple prayer for her, not words but my heartfelt request
that she leave this world embraced and held to the bosum of those she loves

I give thanks for the friendship, the kindness and the gifts for she is truly blessed
we all must meet our companion at the end our journey and find our place in heaven above.

I spoke to her private nurse John, she is on a feeding tube now, and her days are measured in terms of how much pain medication she takes, she can still post be but she is in so much distress, I felt so empty before I wrote this poem, and I asked her nurse and staff to forward my emails to her, since she cannot get out of bed, I think she can use a keyboard occasionally, it is heartbreaking, but for her, the greatest loss is her talent, she was more than a graphic artist man...she has spirit. I wonder if she would have chosen a different path if she had stayed in Ireland rather than move to Australia....just makes it so much harder to say goodby....

You remember Teresa man, remember her for what she gave us, and perhaps the fellowship of artists, her poetry and her wonderful website, when she is gone we all will try to keep it going I suppose, but it wont be the same, she was one in a million, and perhaps I was just a sucker for a red head, but she deserves my utmost admiration, and I wish I could fly to Australia to thank her what she gave us all, Would you write something for her, a Eulogy is premature, but something to let her know that she enjoys our respect, friendship and admiration no matter where in the universe she will be one day.
