Fields of green.....( the garden of stone)

His first breath, the very first thing he knew when his mother held him near.
the bright blue sky, the yellow sun cutting through the mist, and fields of green

he ran as a boy from the house to the meadow pulling his kite high in the air.
without the burdens of the world he flew like a bird in a beautiful dream.

he held her hand and dreamed of love and lay among the twisted branches of the trees.
praying for sanctuary and pulling their clothes around their legs, heaven was as good as could ever have been.

Called to duty he bid her farewell and swallowed her last kiss as they parted among the flowers of an early spring..

and he returned again, in a box covered in the flag of his nation, his honor and his bravery went with him to his grave, and his wife quiety cried, held her infant son, threw the last handful of dirt into the final resting place of her love.....

and wondered what could have been.......among the flowers..

in fields of green.
