he stopped loving her today
he wont be coming back this way anymore

we wont have to hear him say
how much he missed her as he stood by the door

and we wont have to step around the little place where he slept
or move aside the boxes and paper that kept him warm

we will all probably forget the little things that he kept
and forget the stories he told us all about his life on the farm

everything he owned he piled into a cart and dragged here to this filthy spot
and we cursed the smell and the toothless smile

perhaps it is easier to embrace silence and dismiss what we may have already forgot
perhaps he walked so long in our shoes, in his we scarcely walked a mile.

I wish I never heard her name, he told me he was going to see again I heard him say.
perhaps it was easier to forget the shadow of a man asking for money in the rain..

this morning I went back with a five dollar bill and headed back down his alley way.
but sometime around two this morning, he left his lonliness and his heartbreak and his pain.

the corner is silent and I lost my desire to and I put my camera away
just once I wished I could have shown him kindness...or listened for a moment...
but he finally stopped loving her today...
