Just for a day or two.
Logan wants a new father, and he's quite particuler to say
someone who loves him and his mother and wont go away. Many years he has waited, and many more he may. for his father loves no person but himself, and Logan has cried and prayed. I had a chance for a weekend to hold his hand and listen while he spoke we went to the zoo, we went to the store, and we laughed and he told a joke. But deep in his heart, he told me, is an image of a man who gave him his name. but for a few weekends a month I get to be that man, and to Logan it is all the same. Each morning now, I ask that the good Lord to watch over , and keep him safe and sound. That though my children are grown and moved away, at least he will see me come around. A little boy of nine knows no other way to honestly express. his desire for a man of character and kindness, and to be his very best. I can for just a day or two, and perhaps longer if I choose. teach him to measure his success by what he gained and not what he may lose. His own flesh and blood, a man who knows him as his own son. chose a path of destruction, used drugs and used a gun. Logan asked me once when he was forced by circumstance to become a man. that if it were alright with me, just for a few days I understand. And so with each day, each week and each month that passes by. that I measure up to the expectations of a boy with so many burdens, and let his heart fly. Fatherhood is much more than any responsibility I could ever hope to comprehend. the privilege of being one for Logan for a day or two is one I hope never ends.

Very nice jeff, I know exactly the feeling behind that poem, I feel the same for my eldest daughter, especially the last line.

I remember when I was thirty, and was so shocked that I lived that long, now I hope I live to fifty and help the young man on his way...he deserves so much more..
Drugs have taken so many lives, and cancer is not far behind. I hope the legacy is favorable for the boy, he will inherit so many things that he cannot possibly understand, I hope I can be around to clear it all up for him. I might just stick around, and see.

Logan is no different than so many other youngsters robbed of a father figure by circumstance, but he is special nonetheless. There is nothing more honorable IMO than to spend a few moments with a child without a parent, and listen to the music of their heart. I have grown accustomed to the melody, and maybe like an old bear, I can tolerate a cub or two gnawing on me LOL.
Damon, Logan and so many other children need love, need guidiance and tolerance in a world that would consume them if we left them to their own fate. I believe the biggest problem facing the world are fatherless children.

What I find consistently is the expectations placed on children today by their parents who themselves are placing greater burdens upon themselves far exceed anything realistic.
Children without parents and without proper guidiance struggle with issues that to us seem so benign, but wiegh heavily upon them. A boy who has turned his back on his father because of his drug use and abusive and criminal behaviour demonstrates great courage when he reaches out and asks of us, whether we can help him find his own image to embrace. I have been fortunate to be able to take my father for granted and my mother as well. To a child of nine, I cant imagine what wheels must turn in his mind and what must be ripped from his heart to allow him to make is real father "dead". I didnt intend to rescue this child nor would I label my efforts as a rescue, suffice to say all children torn from their mothers breast or their fathers arms find sancturary. A world without fathers and mothers is a terrible one indeed. This age perhaps it is more important than ever to protect and guide the children, and keep them on a path that allows them all to grow up without the threat of violence, drugs and the predatory advance of pornagraphers and pediphiles..
