Bass Solo I wrote.. (In MIDI format right now, Google Vid is taking a long time)

http://www.activebass.com/cgi-bin/pa...=19960&p=1&a=0

Press play to hear the solo (Remember that there are two pages, so don't miss out on the last half [where it really gets good]).

I've been playing bass for 7 months now, been learning alot of classical pieces, as well as modern sort of "hardcore" music. I'm trying (as are a few already) to bridge the gap between musical brilliance and bone jarring energy.

Hope you enjoy, I'll have the video up as soon as Google vid "airs" it. (Video is verified.. has been for a week now, but it still isn't "live".)

Pretty easy, if you ever find bass too easy play the guitar. Very good sound to it for 7 months. Work on it for another 3 months and you'll tune and tweak it to something a lot better.

ugh, I hate hearing that. "bass is easier then guitar". Total bullshit. Sure, alot of bass players take the easy route, but there's plenty of bassists who prove it's not just a backing instrument.

lol, its not an attack man. Its just true though, bass is easier. Its like on par or one step below rythm. When there is a bass solo with drums that is about the same skill as rythm guitar. Nothing can match the skill of a lead guitar, except maybe a talented singer like in Deep Purple.

Bass is easier...?
in the words of Steve Vai.....learn it before you learn guitar
in the words of Jimmy Page...I learned a real depth and deminsion to my music learning Bass, but it was terribly difficult as few guitar players understand the subtext and complexity of a good bottom..
Flea finds acoustic and guitar enormously easier than playing bass....
but then you have to have a good ear to play and listen to bass....
just ask Stanely Clarke...

Well Ive been playing the guitar for quite a while now, I gave a shot at playing the bass for a Black Metal song me and my freinds are going to cover (Hypocrisy - Obsculum Obscenum) and well.. its some pretty easy stuff on the bass for me..
but considering that you might use your fingers to play you do have to be a little bit faster and what have you but thats just imo

tell any jazz players or funk, or R&B players that bass is easier and they will b**ch slap you with the frets on their bass

When I used to play guitar (before my surgery) I appreciated the fact that I could not play bass as well, merely because I really had to feel the music to play well...(but then I listen to Heavy Metal)

Yeah there is no way bass is easier than guitar.... thye both have intricate differences that make them too hard to compare. But just because some bass players do easy rythms doesn't mean bass is automatically a cop off... I mean have you ever heard Frank Bello of Anthrax play bass, or seen him live for that matter? You have to have some pretty good finger dexterity to be playing "Caught in a Mosh". The other good example is Meshuggah.... if you've heard New Millenium Cyanide Christ or anything off of Catch 33, you know bass is not that simple. The list goes on and on... Tom Arayah of Slayer, Galder of Old Man's Child (even though he is a guitar player and a damn good one, he still plays bass very well but I think it has more to do with him being an incredibly brilliant musician), Simen Hestnaes of Dimmu Borgir... Jorn Stubberud of Mayhem.

That's like saying playing the drums is easy and that stringed or keyed instruments are harder.... because there are very few guitarists or bass players who are exceptionally good on a drum kit. Again, drums requires its own set of talents and has its own differences but no way is it just as simple as banging on things to a tempo...

Well, bass is easier for me because my right hand is stronger and more agile than my left. Also I have double jointed thumbs which like to act like they are breaking when I play guitar or Bass.

i think les claypool is a bass god. a lot of ppl may not like primus(i do), but the techniques he uses and his range of skill is phenominal. i never would have guessed bass could actually superceed the guitar in a band, but he pulls it off nicely

Ahhh yes, Victor Wooten...Unbeilevable Bassist/Musician.

If you dont know the name nor music, do some reseach on the name (in other words google) and see what great bass playing sounds like.

And yes I love les claypool, hes created a very unique sound along with Primus, diffenantly some slick and sick bass playing there.
