Competitions [no image]

Two reasons i've made this thread.

1st. I'm assumiing Archangel won the DHZP competition here at DriverHeaven as i've seen a few people with Avatars as his image. So did i miss the announcement or am i jumping ahead again?

If you have won Mr. Arch what did you get? hehe

2nd Competitions are always very popular with DH members, so i was wondering if we could have a thread, although it would not be posted in regularly, but somewhere to advertise any graphcal competitions people see on any site. Or would this be seen as advertising other sites? I know it'd not be used too often, but it's something i would like. DH is about the only forums i visit so i don't see many competitions myself.

A graphics competition thread is interesting, Dan.
If you want to start one and update it, I'd be willing to stick it and help you out with the updates.
I was also thinking of starting a "Battlegrounds" thread, like the previous graphic battle I've posted before.

What would be the interest level in a Graphics Battle thread?
If you don't know, graphic battles are when users post pictures of the previous contestants. Let me explain.

Say we have three DH members battling: Daedal, Danjufo and Lucifer.
Daedal starts the thread and posts a photo of some random object. Danjufo would post saying that he is working on it and when he is ready, posts an altered version of Daedal's image. Lucifer would then post that he is working on a reply and then, when ready, posts an alteration of the previous player's image and so on and so forth.

I dunno, i was thinking more of a SOTW (sig of the week competition). User posts a sig that follows certain guidelines on theme,size,etc....perhaps even provide a render and see who comes up with the best sig?

Sig of the week is a nice idea if anyone wants to run it.
I can stick and close threads if anyone is willing to open/start them.

we have to have some kinda voting system, open to the public, or perhaps maybe just get a few staff members voting on it?

I can help Razrig run it if he wishes. If he changes his mind i am happy to take up the challenge.

A SOTW competition would be awesome and the only awkward part of it is the voting. I think there should be a few 'SOTW reviewers' perhaps people not interesting in entering. Although they would have to vote within a few days to always be able to post a winner.

We could have a seperate section or would it be part of heavenly visions? I think we should put the winners on a seperate locked and stickied thread so someone can browse through essentialy the best sigs of DH.

yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I'd say maybe have Big Z, any of the staffers that dont enter to vote. It's up to the admins and z to decide whether or not to make a seperate section i guess, maybe a subforum off heavenly visions?

I think trying to keep it as part of this heavenly visions section would be messy. it would be nice to keep it clean and have a new section with a thread called 'SOTW 01' and then for that whole week all entrys go there and the first post states that weeks restrictions (dimensions \ size etc) at the end of the week a new thread is started for people to post there next weeks entrys (SOTW 02), and during that time the 'voters' pick a winner and say 3 days after the end of the week the winner is announced and posted in the locked and stickied winners thread. That sound about right?

I don't think that a forum subsection would be opened for such a simplistic project, but it would be easy to keep track of previous battles by simply linking to the previous threads.

Say:
Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5

Yes i guess so, i understand this community is not for graphics, so it has no reason to provide what i was asking. I just think it would be easier to run if it was all in one subsection. Although if the threads for each week were popular it would stay quite high, or you could sticky it for the week and then once its at its end, unsticky it and lock it so it sinks into the never seen depths of DH archives. The winners thread can stay sticked so everyone can marvel in the glory of the victorious graphics master

Good idea Daedal, we just have to make sure there'd be more than the 4 of us posting otherwise it'd be a little silly

I'm up for the idea. I think this forum could afford two stickies for the idea. Every SOTW will be stickied, then when the week is over and the winner is announced, just unsticky that thread and create a new one.

Another Sticky could just permanently stay up, and every week the runner of the post, or a mod, could edit the post to say the week's rubric/guidelines and all that fun stuff

Sounds awesome fun to me, although there is still only what - 5 of us interested?

I think a sticky should be made announcing the plans for the competition with the general rules and the way it will all work. I'd do that but i can't sticky it.. Or should i make the thread and you'll sticky it for me Daedal? Only thing is people will probably reply to it and i think it should be locked

Also, before anything is done, it needs to be decided how we'll chose the winner each week.
