My pulse skyrocketed today...
Earlier today when I was having my daily walk in the forrest with our dogs, we had an encounter that raise my pulse lets say a bit higher than normal.
First my dogs Asta and Annie (bull mastiff and german shepard) started to bark like they were rabid, foaming and shit. I was like what the h*** is the matter with you two, and there it was...like max 50 yards ahead a big brown Bear was standing on its hind legs looking straight at us, then it turned around and took off. This was not the first time I've seen a Bear in the wild, but it was the first time I've seen one this close to our house, it was maybe 6-700 meters away from the house. The winter is approaching rather fast at this latitude so the bears are busy eating before the hibernation period, I guess that is why we were able to get so close and the wind was blowing against us so that probably is another reason on why it didn't take off before the dogs went crazy.. Anyway, I went back later with the camera trying to spot it again, but all I got was a pretty crappy shot of its footprints...

Judging by its size I'd say that it was a young female bear...

woah that sounded pretty close, don't go hunting it down with a camera dude, i'd probably lock up all the windows and doors and grab ol' shottie.

All I can encounter 600 meters from my house is a wild rabbit

do you still have wolves there? and what are the prey the bears might live on? young fawns and rabbits and carrion? It reminds me of Montana and western Alberta..I am sure its beautiful, why not post some landscapes?

About the bears diet they eat about anything but I'd say that mostly eat berrys, ants and cadavers. It may be hard to believe but it is not very often a bear actually kills anything big, they do tend to kill the occassional moose calf though...

My philosophy is to invite friends that run slower than you do if you want to find bear in the wild.
