In a small town called Gornja Radgona. It lies in the NE part of Slovenia on the border to Austria.

I have friends in Slovakia in a little villiage called Khalinovo and I think we travelled through Austria and Yugoslavia last year when I went to see their winery. I was surprised at all the German Army paraphanalia still in barns and buildings in Slovkia, it was certainly an eye opener. My friend can speak Romanian, Russian, Slovak and Czech I believe and a little Polsky too, but I think Slovenia is like Czech right?

It's true that we are all of slavic origin and the languages are somewhat similar, but we spent lots of time under austro-hungarian rule and after the ww2 we weren't behind the iron curtain and had lots of contacts with western europe as italy and austria are our neighbours.

And as a part of former yugoslavia, we were the most developed country, although one of the smallest.

Yeah, in the yugoslavia years (till 1990) smuggling was number one priority. You couldn't get coffee here, so we smuggled it from austria

You could only buy 1kg, but we smuggled 10 or 20

Some people even smuggled for a living.

I bought my ZX Spectrum for 2000 german marks and smuggled it over the border

It was scary though

and I felt perfectly wicked hiding those little complimentary bottles of rum you get on a plane in my waistcoat. LOL
