Sparrow Hawk

Just earlier for some reason i decided to look out of the window..And then this moving object caught my eye...

And seeing as i live in a heavely built up area of nottingham this suprised me..

I do beleive this is a Sparrow Hawk sitting in the garden having it's lunch..

Due to the distance it was i zoomed in as close as possible and the open window cought the flash reflection so the pic did not come out too well.This was the third pic i took and was the best that came out.

Any way here it is..hopefully you should make it out. near the center of the pic.And about three quaters down from the top.

TY.... i had to lighten the photo quite a bit. Otherwise the Hawk would not be visable.

It was just such a shock to see it in my garden.. I have heard plenty of the calls in the last few months.But to have the privilege to see one,And one that was feeding was great..

Last month i also seen a Grey squirrel running along my back fence.Again that was a first for my area.. Due to the reason no trres in my area produce nuts...

Intriguing on the hawk in that vicinity and on the pic hey ya did what ya could and we can seen it bro

Well, it's nice to see that that beautiful bird has decided to pay you a visit so many times

As for squirrels....well, maybe the poor bugger was lost! :P

Reminds me of when one tried to eat a starling right in front of us....

This was when the feeding frenzy of newly flightworthy starlings were descending, even while we were still out in the garden.

The other principal actor in this drama, was our friendly blackbird, not tame as such, but generally not that bothered if we were outside.

One other thing, the blackbird hated the starlings, one or two it could usually see off with a quick head down charge.

Anyway, about six feet in front of me, the blackbird squared up to a starling, but the starling didn't move, the two of them facing each other down. I was about two seconds away from breaking the deadlock, as I knew the starling would be the one to break if I moved, when the blackbird broke and ran hell for leather into the undergrowth, leaving me surprised it had given up to a single starling.

As my gaze turned back to where the standoff had been, I then saw that the starling was in the clutches of a sparrowhawk, and the reason for the blackbird beating a hasty retreat - it must have seen the sparrowhawk dive.

I think the sparrowhawk spotted me at about the same moment that I spotted it, and then instead of being able to leisurely kill and eat its prey, it tried to pick it up and fly off, losing its grip, with the starling flying off and the sparrowhawk making an easy pace in pursuit. Maybe the starling had a lucky escape, or maybe it was wounded enough to be easily re-caught
