Hey Jeff.. Thank You Very Much for the pm and for your time posting these images here.
These pics you posted here are far better than the ones i have in my archive.. I appreciate you asking what i wanted before your trip to Duxford.I now have a few good pics of the tanks they store in the museum. |

Re: Land Warfare Museum - Duxford
I used auto without flash a few times, but I had to use an ISO of 1600 in manual and a just get some detail. If I had brought my monopod I could have done more .
Of course my G-10 and my Nikon D-90 with my 18 - 105 Nikkor AFS DX lense doing the brunt of the work. I just bought a METX flash with a diffuser but I hadnt sorted out the correct settings and some of the pics were way too bright. LOL. I Understand they keep the lighting low in the hall to preserve the dramatic effect so I tended to try the same. F4 to F8 works for the most part so I tend to use that when I am in manual. With the Nikon, you almost forget to stay technical because it is soooo easy. I think I am very fortunate to be in driving distgance to some pretty nice stuff. I went on photo safari to Midsummer Place in Milton Keynes with my Slovakian friend and his fiance and took so many pics of people in the mall I felt a bit self concious. I havent worked up the courage to just shoot away in crowds yet. In time.

Re: Land Warfare Museum - Duxford
the Nikon D90 has some great noise reduction techniques in the menus for high ISO settings of 3200 and over which really make shooting in dull light situations without flash very possible. Those turned out great.
What a stunning camera btw one of the best I have used (would love to play with the Nikon D3x but at over 5 grand it might be a while before I could ever justify that). As for shooting in crowds you might want to be careful, its such a paranoid society now that you can be seen as a pedophile and even arrested in some countries. (not sure of the UK stance but it seems ok as long as you aren't hanging around in a big mac outside a primary school taking a lot of pics!). |

had my eye on the DX3 for a month, but I have to get a proper car to drive in now because of all the kit I haul around, LOL. I am buying a 2004 Berlingo Desire M diesel so I can set up a tripod on the fens and catch the light in relative comfort and not get run over by cattle. LOL.

Re: Land Warfare Museum - Duxford
I dont have noise Ninja on my lappy, so I used the filter in PS. You can discern the shape of the tank though.

Re: Land Warfare Museum - Duxford
Nice shots!
![]() One of the main advantages of more expensive cameras compared to the compacts (at least judging from my limited knowledge) is the performance at high ISO speeds. I was recently at looking at some dinos and similarly to these shots, I tried to preserve the atmosphere and colors set by the lighting in the hall by not using flash, but I was in a bit of a problem there as I had lots of noise at ISO800 on my Canon A590 and I didn't dare go higher than that. Your camera is really wonderful (but you also have a good eye for photography).

Re: Land Warfare Museum - Duxford
thanx, I love Nikon products and Canon as well, because I have used Canon for years and read enough about the Nikon to appreciate its ease of use. I dont use all the features of my camera, but I buy the photo pulp mags about technique and I experiment with them.

Re: Land Warfare Museum - Duxford
Nice pictures Jeff, i find it quite sad that technology develops fastest when it's being used to kill people.
However from an engineering point of view tanks are amazing pieces of kit. Have you been to the national science and history museums in london? If you ever get chance go to those, really amazing places. |

Re: Land Warfare Museum - Duxford
No not yet, but I want to, its just that the tube and train so f'ing unreliable. I was stranded there one night and couldnt get a room and I HAD MONEY.
London and I will have to come to terms one day. I might just park in Epping and just take train in and out. Thanx for reminding me. But all progress seems to revolve around war or conflict doesnt it.
