Re: Ghost in the Window
in the window of a house someone had lined up melted glass bottles, rusted iron objects and a few faded old images on glass plates, this one was still visible. As I walked by I watched the eyes follow me and I stopped and took several frames through the glass of the window. i imagine, like many things in windows of the old painted ladies, it represents what the new owners found in the basement, etc.
Most of the area around Nob Hill was consumed by fire either started by the city to create fire breaks or destroyed in the second temor, but buildings burned. A sort reverence for the past, or past owners of the old houses. In the basements, old boxes and old steamer trunks of niches and corners of what remains of old San Francisco remains the history of this place, like an echo from a hundred years ago, the lives, the colour and the character of a bygone time. On friday I will walk down the streets and try to capture what remains, but very little is left now. After 1906, much of what remained of San Francisco has slowly been consumed by time or rebuilt or refashioned into the San Francisco we see now. I still fancy the old glass plates and bits of Old San Francisco and I will try to post more .
