More than Human

Ok, so I ended up giving up on the chalice. I got carried away in Zbrush, putting too much detail into it, and Lightwave had a fit dealing with 6 million polys. Go figure.

I'm just testing the waters with 3d. I've never really worked with the programs, so I'm learning as I go with regard to what works and what doesn't on render times vs detail.

Here's a robot that's a WIP. I'll post updates as I go, maybe one more for the arms and legs and then the final.

Ok, so I've been working on the robot off and on. I want to incorporate him into my personal website I'll eventually get done. I finished his arms and half of his legs.

I also made a render for what might be the splash page to the site.

Some more work needs to be done. I actually started the upper torso rigging so I start to animate it too.

Well, a little of all of it I suppose. Robots are always badass, but when you look at robots in real life, you see the children of mankind. On the outside you see polished plastic and metal, but for it to do what it does, you see the entire history of our understanding of humanity and science. For me a robot is the icon of genius, both timeless and beautiful.

I want to translate into my work. Engineering for beauty.

Additionally, some mounted guns, lasers, and explosions will always get me pretty eroused.

I decided to mess around with some lighting and try and go for something a little more realistic. I ended up using lighting from an fisheye hdr of St. Peter's Basilica for the one below. I used another HDR for the splash under that.

I used some similar features from Sonny. I can't really point to another popular robot design that really looks humanoid like he does.
