Re: Symbol
Nice, I wonder what has been eating on it? Fal you should have a blog or something on photography. Too bad I don't live closer or I'd paid you for lessons!

Re: Symbol
Glad that worked out for you. Have you ever thought about teaching for like adult learning centers or something similar for photography?

Re: Symbol
No, in fact I teach software to medical providers, but photography or taking pics is something I really would rather master first.
I appreciate your comments though, my brother and father are proper photographers and make great sport of my efforts.

Re: Symbol
Master first, HA you know more about it than I ever will. I would love to attend some classes or find some good reference material that really explains it well.

Re: Symbol
I started a with a mentor, my father, who desperately tried to convince me that I needed to be more patient.
I collected all of his popular photography magazines and Playboys and started doing portrraits in Black and White on film. When I bought my first T-70 I started using light, gels and printing techniques. I studied the work of Weston, Adams, etc. at the library and I could see how they pulled it off. My father was the engineer at television studio in Crete so he showed me how light looks different on film, television and on in print. It took me along while, but hanging out with a professional photograper did the trick. I started collecting photography mags and testing techniques and found what I like to use to compose, what light I like and I often try to break rules (rule of thirds) in composition to get what I want. My greatest battle is against noise now, using long lenses and long exposures. Its a bit of a trial. RIght now I am working with a multiplier to extend the range of my Sigma 150 - 500 lense and it really knocks down the F stop to a factor 2 as the mentioned. My white balance is different so I found myself shooting in manual alot, ignoring the built in OS and trying different filters with a very very robust tripod. Composition is the hardest thing to do for me, I can see it after I take the shot so I just click away and the crop it later. I bin more than half of my shots and keep the ones that catch my eye. I say just go out and have fun, but invest your time wisely, there are alot of challenges right in your yard. I am following a pesky Magpie that is stealing peanuts out of my garage right now. ROFL. Cheers man, I look foward to anything you can post.
