River bank fall colors
It has been a while since I posted here so.... Two shots I took during a lunch break. Same camera settings, same RAW development settings. The first with polarizer filter, second without it. Sometimes it makes a huge difference...

Is that taken with an SLR camera or just a regular digital camera..
I'd like to learn more about taking beautiful pictures like that.
I'm even struggling with my digital camera on manual setting. Is there a site or guide on the web anyone knows about that would give me some insight in the workings of the digital camera? ISO settings, aperture, shutter speed etc.

If you mean detail as in resolution keep in mind that my equipment is technically inferior to what Falstaff have (Canon 7D if I remember correctly?), but I don't think it makes any difference at this size. And if you mean "detail", well.. I just liked the CPL effect there

Ive got a Sony DSC-H20.
It's taken with a regular compact, more exactly a bridge camera - Fujifilm S100FS, with Hoya Pro1D CPL filter.

Personally I don't use the manual mode much. For shots like the one posted here I use the P mode where the exposure is automatic, but I can control the settings manually if need. For animals and other fast moving objects the Shutter speed priority mode is the best. I don't find much use for the aperture priority mode on compact cameras, the changes in DOF are hardly noticeable.
