a little tip guys, when doing that and applying the noise reduction filters apart from the obvious cloning, isolate either via paths or masks, the parts of the image which will lose fine detail, such as the type in that picture.

When adding colour to the old images, is it a case of just guessing what colour things should be. I've one or two pics I'd like to have a go at from when I was a kid.

to get it done accurately it takes quite a considerable amount of time, alot of people use the airbrush in photoshop and apply a colour with some opacity set to colour mode and overlay either via the eye or with a path/selection isolation. I prefer to work with masks and a few lil tricks. You HAVE to keep the detail on those images, part of the whole appeal is the grain, and if you get a nice sepia tone it can be much more effective than colouring. depends on the look you are after.

It's not difficult, only thing you really need is lots of patience and a good precise mouse..
