This is something I worked on last night for a little while and then put a few more touches on it a little bit ago.

The 'above the clouds' image is a stock image. I did a magic capture of the sky area using a high comparison ratio in order to capture right to the edge of the cloud line. Then I selected the INVERT option to change the captured portion to the clouds.

Next, I COPIED out this selection and PASTED it as a NEW IMAGE to keep it separate from my current WORK AREA.

The next operation was to create a SPHERE with TEXTURES, BUMP MAPPING, REFLECTIONS, and LIGHTING. Once the sphere was like I wanted it, I then placed it just below the cloud line.

In order to get it to appear to be RISING from the horizon, I then PASTED the COPIED CLOUDS back into the work area.

So, the current project utilizes a minimum of THREE Layers to create the effect.

I've been using PhotoImpact 7 (which would have done this, as well) but this one was done with a trial versioni of PhotoImpact XL. It's available for download from www.ulead.com
