Spheres and Shapes
This is just a little example of how easily PhotoImpact can create shapes from Spheres.

Each of the two spheres was created to get the effect I wanted. Then I copied the final rendering and pasted the copy back into the overall image.

Once done, I selected to Edit that sphere using the Edit Points option. With this option you can easily add or delete control points on the circumference of the sphere. Adding more control points, of course, gives greater control over the entire final rendering.

Here are just a few examples of shapes....each made from the basic sphere originally created:

Thanks.

I should mention that each of the new shapes can also be edited to create different effects. The lighting changed, for example, as well as any of the other attributes.
