Not Mine -- But Amazing Sketch of Jesus

With the public release of Mel Gibson's, The Passion of the Christ, due out in a couple of days, I thought this sketch would be a very timely one to review. I received it in e-mail earlier today.

The sketch was commissioned by The Tennessee Mint and was created by Joe Castillo, a native Mexican.

After viewing the image details, one realizes the entire sketch is comprised of historical events in the life of Jesus Christ.

Don't like it no offense, Biblically we aren't supposed to picture what he looked like or whatever, havent read it in so long but oh well

Actually, I have a degree in Biblical Studies and there's nowhere that it says we cannot visualize what Jesus looked like. In fact, those who knew and met him know/knew perfectly well what He looks/ed like.

I believe your reference has to do with any attempts to visualize the Deity/Essence of God. The command given was that there was to be no graven images made of Elohim. (This also was coupled with a command to not worship idols.) The fact that humanity could not 'see God and live' was demonstrated by Moses' conversation with Elohim while on Mt. Sinai. His request was to let him see God....Elohim. God's response was, 'No man can see me and live.' The implication was that the only way we can see God was by passing through the veil of death.

At any rate, there's no prohibition to imagining the likeness of Jesus. In fact, He stated, 'He who has seen me, has seen the Father.'

I might also add here that no true believer in Jesus, who understands the death of Christ, will blame either the Romans, nor the Jews, for killing Jesus. Rather, He said, "No man takes my life from me. I lay it down." This illustrates the total sacrificial nature of His death.

I plan to see 'The Passion of the Christ' this week and already have my vouchers for it. I think it should be very enlightening from all I've read and seen so far.

Is that the Mel Gibson film? or am I way off here?
