Very nice. Maybe you could pose him? I like the lighter look which is uncommon for soldiers and it's refreshing.

Its no critisism of your work, but I personally find knee-pads very tacky, (Like in CS:S), theres nothing wrong with them though, very nice model though,

<<nice work. How long did it take you to do?>>

probably 40 hours, give or take.

<<Very nice. Maybe you could pose him? I like the lighter look which is uncommon for soldiers and it's refreshing.>>

I will

<<Why is he standing with his arms out like that?>>

easier to model like that and also easier to Rig and animate

Love it, great model. I only have 2 gripes though, his hands/gloves, and his feet/boots are very flat and undetailed (work in progress?) and, his shirt right under his vest isn't textured with camo, I think it should be

Maybe you could model it for him by taking a picture of yourself in the clothes, just so he gets it exact.

To the thread starter, looks nice, id like to see it in a background and maybe with his arms in a more natural looking position, holding a gun or something.

What did you render the model with, 3ds? Or did you use a third party program? How long did it take to render?

I didn't just render it... I made it too!

Created in 3DsMax 7, rendered in Brazil

I know, I was just wondering if you rendered it in 3ds, because usually 3ds renders to look as good as that

well actually you can get many programs to render like that or even better... or worse.

It all depends on the Artist.

Mental ray is good. Vray and Brazil are probably the best.

I've heard many good things about Vray and Brazil, how much better than the 3ds renderer would you say they are?

Well see, 3DsMax comes with 2 renderers. Mental Ray and 3dsmax default scanline render. That default scanline renderer is 3dsmax's renderer. It's really really bad. It's only good for while you're modeling and you want to see a conceptual preview of what you've made because it does it in seconds. On the other hand it's really bad for doing final renders. This is why Discreet gave 3DsMax Mental Ray. It's much better, but still no match for Brazil or Vray.

That is why most people go with Brazil and Vray.
