I like how half the tree is dead but the other half is alive, made even more striking by the colurful sunset, nice pic falstaff.

Thanks, at one time a hundred or so years ago, Morman settlers built irrigation canals, and planted hay and other crops and trees and old houses were the legacy they left behind. A dam that fed water from Lake Lahontan gave the area water but the inhabitants left and returned back to Utah. Local people here left the old trees and rarely disturb them, but one by one they succumb to disease and decay. I honor them and those that remain as living proof that man, rather briefly, conquered the desert and left these guardians behind to linger on. If one drives along the highway in and out of this area, you may see perhaps a perimeter of trees around an old wrought iron fence standing out in sharp contrast to the shifting sands and rolling fields of sage brush and juniper....
those ae the old family graves...left to time, with the old cottonwood trees as the final companions.
