wow, I guess I was wrong. We just got like 50 people register on these forums to post about this mouse

And serious people will pay $300 for a mouse? Insane.

After speaking with Steelseries about shortages, they sent me this link to share with everyone.

The review wasn't evident but will this mouse work on other games (ie configurable for other games besides WoW)? I don't play WoW but I like having the extra buttons for general MMO gaming.

Re: World Of Warcraft Steelseries MMO Mouse Review @ DH

I have this mouse. However, I'm not entirely pleased with it. (to the point where I can't use it unless it's fixed or I find a fix)

The look and style of both the mouse and the drivers are nice, but I've got a communication issue with the drivers themselves.

Perhaps this is just me, but when I install the specified drivers, in-game functionality (tested WoW and L4D) of the mouse-4 and mouse-5 buttons fails. It responds in the driver set-up that I'm pressing the buttons, and works for "Back" and "Forward" short-cuts in IE. In WoW, though, it's a dead button.

I have reason to believe it's the specific drivers, because when I uninstall them and use generic plug-n-play Windows mouse drivers, mouse-4 and mouse-5 perform fine.

One other gripe that I have when comparing to my current/old mouse (Logitech MX518): it doesn't have a pointer acceleration option, so it just plain feels very different if you've grown used to that.

@morph.ca: The buttons are similar to other peripherals where the extras aren't necessarily recognized as their own button. However, with the WoWMouse program, you can create custom macros for obscure keybinds, then set each button to any of them, so Ctrl-Alt-Shift-Numpad5 to reload on your thumb dpad-down is an absolute possibility.

Yes, you can completely customise the macros that the buttons are tied to.

Where exactly are you seeing the problem? is it just when they're assigned to mouse 4 and 5 or does the same thing happen when you change the button to another function? Personally I didn't experience any such issues with the mouse

Re: World Of Warcraft Steelseries MMO Mouse Review @ DH

When I set the mouse-4 and mouse-5 buttons to "Windows Button 4" and "Windows Button 5," it wasn't giving me any in-game response. Using the buttons for back and forward shortcuts in IE was fine, and they reacted (sort of like calibration, I suppose) when I pressed them with the mouse config window open, but in the games, it wasn't working.

Reversing them didn't change their reaction, but when I assign one of the macros or "Game Commands" (used turn left and turn right as a quick test), both buttons worked fine. Just seems to be the "Windows Button 4/5" that get all troublesome.

Thanks for the replies. And for the comprehensive review.
I had just ordered the MX Revolution yesterday - it was on sale and I needed a mouse to replace my G9 but this Steel mouse is still pretty tempting! As for the driver issues it could well just be preliminary Vista issues (I'm just assuming) which hopefully will get ironed out soon.

Before I (try to) buy this mouse I have a question, perhaps any of you can give me the answer.

In the software of this mouse there is the possibility to create macro's with loops and delays. This is an illegal action according to the Blizzard EULA, but the same Blizzard is sponsoring this mouse.

Are these macro's allowed or is this a function we Warcraft players are not allowed to use?

Hey, I don't think it allows for loops but you can record Macro's as you type them, so you can leave delay between spells.

And... I'm not blizzard or anything but I mean this is a Blizzard SteelSeries WoW MMO Gaming Mouse specially designed for the game so I wouldn't hesistate to take advantage of all of its functions
