A while back we looked at the MSI GT725, a stylish 17 inch notebook containing the powerful Radeon HD4850 and a 2.53GHz dual core processor. Today we’re going to be taking a look at the GX723, a similar laptop but slightly less ‘high octane’ with a 2.4GHz processor and Nvidia 130M GT.

Good laptop and good review. Surprised that you guys had problem with installing drivers on it. If you couldn't make it, I doubt any others could. I hope Nvidia/MSI does something about it.

Would I buy it? No. As you mentioned the pricing makes no sense. If it was a couple hundrend less, then perhaps, but less than 100 difference from a far better alternative, from their own line, would make one a fool to buy this one.

I am glad they decided to remove the red line. I hate it when expensive gaming laptops have extra lights and very strong colours. It makes it a bit more difficult to concentrate on the screen, and if it is a signal to everyone "Hey look at me, you know you want to steal me, do it!"

This looks like a really decent product to bad about the pricing as compared to the GX725.

Is using the GPU for video encoding an option which is specific to the Badaboom software, so only for testing..? Or is it possible to use the GPU with other video software like MPG Enc..?

I just bought this in UK for £950... wouldn't be able to live with the red colouring on the GT729. This looked like a good deal compared to anything else around. I particularly wanted a 17" screen and the res at 1680 x 1050 is a good compromise between text size and detail... I also liked the lower power consumption with the P range processor and I figure I could upgrade the processor in 2-3 years if I feel the need... I'm also wondering - if I replace the processor (when the 2-year warranty is out..!) with a higher clock speed P processor (9500 / 9600 / 9700), will this use the memory better... so it runs at 800MHz, rather than at 667MHz..?
