Cooler Roundup August Part 2 @ DH
Read The Review Here
___________________ In such a crowded market it can be difficult for first time buyers to know what best fits their needs and today we are going to look at a number of different products from a variety of manufacturers, most of which you may have not heard of before now with Cooler Master being the only well known name in our line-up today. However, the Megahalems will be the product to watch as Prolimatech aim to take a chunk out of the Thermalright TRUEs market share. |

Another nice set of cooling solutions I am quite impressed with the Megahalems TBH. Nice to see CoolerMaster continuing the efficient and cost effective Hyper212 line as well.

Yeah it's great to see the Hyper 212 Plus doing well. The direct touch seems to pretty much make up for the four vs six pipes compared to the TRUE. The fins on the Hyper 212 Plus seems even more tightly spaced though, which could lower the performance during low fanspeed operation. Unimportant for most but a low noise zealot like me would actually like to see a version with fewer fins.

I was really pulling for the Orc. It looks so SWEET. However, just performing better than the stock cooler isn't really worth any kind of $$$. If you guys had an extra one just sittin in the corner collecting dust I'd still take it off your hands.

Re: Cooler Roundup August Part 2 @ DH
How much bigger is the Megahalems, compared to the TRUE?
And I would feel quite squeemish about hanging almost a kilo on little bit of motherboard..

Re: Cooler Roundup August Part 2 @ DH
One thing keeps bugging me about heatpipes.
If it's so great to have the heatpipes in direct contact with the heat spreader, why did we go away from having the heatsink base in contact with the heat spreader. Just how "magic" are these less than fingernail sized tubes - yes, a lot better that the same cross section and length of any available metal, but then a fin base direct contact heatsink had a very large cross section and, at least to some of the fins, a very short length. I guess a lot of current designs don't really have a "base" as such, just an attachment plate and a fin stack hanging on the heatpipes. Also a little suspicious about the contact efficiency between thin fins and the round tubes.
