Nvidia: Driverheaven upcoming Q&A, ask them YOUR questions

The first part of Nvidia working with Driverheaven is coming in the form of a Q&A, and with their recent announcement detailing the fact they wont be stopping Omegadrive developing future sets this can only be seen as a good thing.

I have alot of questions ready of my own, but I dont feel its fair just for me to ask so as always im opening up the questions to our members. I would appreciate if the questions could be kept at a mature level, on a wide variety of subjects, ranging from drivers to hardware...... anything NV related.

I hope this new Nvidia policy of working WITH us, can and will continue, it is sure to enhance the quality of this site.

Good luck Zardon!
This is at least a chance for the nVidia card owners here at DH to voice there feelings and concerns!

Could you ask nVIDIA if what Valve is saying about Half-Life 2 and nVIDIA cards are true?? That is, will nVIDIA cards really be incapable of using FSAA in Half-Life 2 while RAdeon 9500,9600,9700, and 9800 cards will be able to use FSAA in HL2 with a work-around?

flow`` is on a distinguished road

any plans to adopt a driver development cycle like ati's?
any news on the det 50's release and what to expect or not expect?
as stated above about the HL/fsaa issue, any clarity? considering wasn't HL2 using an nvidia card at whatever event that was a little while back?
what to expect from future generation of cards and where do they see the industry going in a few years down the road?

i'll think up some others later.. must sleep =o

I want to know will they quit releasing so many beta drivers and will they speed up getting out WHQL certified drivers like ATi?

This is about the Omega drivers
Will they stop listening to a "few" users who are to lazy to read the statements given by omega, and thereby ignoring and punishing the 10th of thousends who were very happy with these drivers?

Why do certain driver sets not allow trilinear filtering in ut2003 even when the drivers say you can run it

This is a question I have had for a while.

I find at times the det drivers being bundled for so many different cards sometimes causes confusion.
Trying to find your card in the list is sometimes like looking in a phone book.

Maxxypoos and I recently ran into this trying to help another member with driver problem (Gracelessgodes)
GG was running an uncommon G4 card(if I remember correctly) .. and was running into compatability issues.

So my first question would be:
"Have you(Nvidia) considered making your driver releases more specific to the actual card version .. as opposed to general multi-driver release "

I have this question:
Since they aquired 3DFX and the technology why have they just let it goto waste? I mean they aquired the tchnology and some of the main people from 3dfx, you would think that between mergeing the two they should have released one helluva a card. What ever happened to glide?

As I have read in the interviews with ATI reps on Driverheaven there have been questions about overclocking and modding.

Question:
"Do you(Nvidia) support overclocking of your Video card products. By which I infer having your products pushed to there limits and seeing just what they are capable of doing. I see this a sign of confidence in your products and was just wondering about your(Nvidia's) viewpoint on this subject."

I for one completely remove the current driver before installing a newer one.
Spike has creating some excellent tools on Driverheaven for doing this.
Just interested in Nvidia's viewpoint or suggestions on this subject.

Question:
"Upon the issue of new driver installation. I always remove the current driver before installing a newer one. I never as a rule install them one over top of the other. I was just wondering what suggestions you(Nvidia) would make on the subject of installation procedures and Drivercleaner software ?"

My question(s):

What are the requrements For NvRotate? it is presented as a "universal" feature but some cards and environments don't seem to get it - (example: Geforce 2MX under Win98) - is it the Win98 driver limiting it, or is it the card?

Secondly, is there any possibilty of giving NvRotate a friendlier interface (eg. hotkey to rotate) so it can be used with Pivoting LCD screens which do not include a full version of PIVOT software.

My question to nvidia is.
Will anything be done about image quality overall. Because if you compare to ati image quality, atis quality is slightly higher. Will there be an implimantation of 16x anistrophic filtering sometime soon? and would this work on geforce4TI's?
Or some raised image quality.

Thanks
Dan

Last one for now

I'm posing general questions and I will leave the technical ones to the experts (such as Matth, etc.)
General questions help the flow of an interview as I'm sure Z knows.

Question:
"It is of no surprise that over the last year or so Nvidia has seemed to lag ATI in newer Video card releases. Always one step behind it seems. I was curious if Nvidia had any long term plans to try and reverse this situation(ie: research on a new technology that might revolutionize the industry)"

Sad

Why is the development of the nForce drivers so slow ?
How many members are working in the nForce drivers team ?
The existing issues with sound and IDE, will they be ever resolved ?
What is your position on the fact that after almost an year from it's introduction, the nForce 2 platform doesn't have good quality drivers ?

Thank you.

Why does the NV statement say drivers (plural) up to that last sentence I quote above? It appears to me that means NV will require permission for each driver & not a 'carte blanche' on all future drivers.

Questions to NV:

1. What are the 'rules & regulations' you intend to impose on DH, Omega & end users at this site for NV to take an active role on this site?

2. If NV allows Omega to make/release drivers thru DH, will NV then supply support for those drivers & if so: will NV then control what Omega does?

3. If the NV logo is used (officially): what does NV want in return for that usage?

That oughta be a good start & I hope DH keeps the dog on a leash & not the other way around.

I'm quite happy to see the results that the FX5900 are producing. I'm one of the biggest NVidiot"s out there is and it's quite difficult to defend your products against the "other" graphics card fans, (Who can tend to be pretty blunt and down right harsh) without a winning product like the 5900.
Anyhow I'm getting off topic. I'm currently working on going to purchase a FX5900 to replace the 5600 I have. I'm sure there's only so much you are allowed to reveal but is there anything new and upcomming that I should wait for?

Driver problems..?

Clour Correction.

I am using a Hitachi LCD, and because I am using the DVI input I have to adjust the colour cast using the Nvidia Drivers, so far all driver versions suffer from this problem.

If I tweak the Blue channel a tad, ( Brighness) due to the slite blueness of this monitor, I get problems with some games, all the Black parts of the Intro show up as Blue, But only with XP, OK with WIN98se..

Games that I have tested that do this are Dungeon Siege & Humvee, all the other games that I have tried do not do this..

So is this a Bug with the Games or the Driver or my 3D card.?

Gigabyte GA-8IEXP MoBo, P4 1.6, 512M Ram and a Leadtek A250 LE TD Ti4200.

Thanks

Roger.

I own 2 nVidia graphics cards. (GeForce 3 and a GeForce 4 Ti4600) I recently purchased an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, and was amazed at the much better
performance, especially where AA and Anisotropic enhancements are concerned, from the ATI card. The ATI card actually delivers what the box, marketing,
websites, reviews, say it will. I canot say the same about the 2 nVidia products I own. (Actually 3. I also have an nForce 2 Mobo)

Do you believe that in the future your products will improve, and perhaps surpass the products coming out pf the ATI camp?
Or, will nVidia, as a company, continue to spend more time acquiring defunct/dead graphics card companies, (3dFX), instead of spending
some money on R&D? I mean real R&D...not garage quality/duct tape hack card cooling jobs.

This I think is a fair question, considering your company has over $600 of my money in the last 15 months alone.

Thanks for your attention. Have a great day.

Lastly. Ever thought about adding real-time light-sourcing as a graphics card feature, along with AA and Aniso, etc.?

I dunno these questions seem kind of harsh. I mean well, we can name all the bugs and the problems of Nvidia, but questions like, "When are you going to fix the bug ______?" and "Why is Ati so much better than you guys?" etc... seems kind of pointless don't it?

Well here's my question, (seems harsh myself... a joke actually)

Why are Nvidia video cards so expensive?
