re: Mozilla Firefox 17.0
I only use Firefox for Facebook.... For some odd reason any app I use can not keep up with Flash under IE 8 / 9 or 10.
And yes Final only means it has reached v17 only.. I don't bother with the (Or post) any of the betas... |

Re: Mozilla Firefox 17
18 comes out Jan.6, 19 moves into Beta, and 20 moves into Alpha. We should see a new release every month to 2 months, so Feb for 20? You're probably right.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 17.0
It seems to be very very snappy. And the best part is once you install it you don't have to import your settings from Firefox, it automatically does that, got all my bookmarks and everything in it, it's as if I'm still using Firefox with "Waterfox" written in the top left corner. And I love the logo, a blue fox hugging the world with mother Africa in the centremost part of the globe. Nice change from always focusing on Europe or North America.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 17.0
In all honesty, I don't find FF (using 17.0) being one bit "un snappy".

Re: Mozilla Firefox 17.0
The problem with Water Fox, is usually that it's behind one version, that means the speed improvements form the latest version of Firefox is not in Waterfox, which though have the 64bit support. This means that sometimes Waterfox is faster, but sometimes the latest Firefox is faster.
Also there might be some security holes, when running an "older" version and off course some plugins doesn't exist in 64bit or work perfectly. Personally the cons with Waterfox are to big for me, vs. the pros, but I guess that's very individual. |

Re: Mozilla Firefox 17.0
In regards to Waterfox, one tip: uninstall Firefox (you can still use the Firefox user profile though, so back it up first).
Even though the shortcut points to Waterfox, if Firefox is still installed it will run instead when you click the link to run Waterfox. It's easy to tell when you go to Help | About. It should say "Waterfox" and not "Firefox". A secondary tell is if you go to "Options", under the General tab | "Startup" it should say "When Waterfox starts...". Not only that, but if you check your Plug-ins it should be empty, because you haven't installed Adobe Flash, or Java into Waterfox yet. Not to say that you can't have both installed, just that from experience it can take a bit for the system to stop redirecting to Firefox when you launch Waterfox. Uninstalling Firefox, and thus making sure the Mozilla Firefox folder is deleted in Program Files (x86), it immediately starts to work. Don't know why this glitch happens, but it could be because of Mozilla entries in the registry are still there which Waterfox isn't supposed to use (it has it's own under Wow64). I've had people say they couldn't tell the difference, yet when I check I can see they haven't even used Waterfox. |

Re: Mozilla Firefox 17.0
doesn't happen to me.. it's waterfox through and through... and I've got Firefox still installed.
even if I click on the firefox.exe it starts up waterfox. Has probably got something to do with the options I chose when installing.

It does warn you however to not uninstall your profile/settings when you are uninstalling Firefox after installing it as, like you say, they share the same profile files. |

Re: Mozilla Firefox 17.0
I have been using waterfox since Judas posted the link...
I must say that I prefer waterfox over firefox for a Few reasons... A) It is much quicker imo. B) Waterfox is saving my facebook passwords correctly C) I now have proper use of the Central Email Address for Hardware Reviews and PR's for HH, Which Webmail has an issue with windows 8 and IE10.. |

Re: Mozilla Firefox 17.0
For the last say 2+ years... i've been building machines.. setting up laptops... and rebuilding/reinstalling windows on machine that come in for repair....
All of these i install x64 bit windows where possible.. After everything is setup.. i ALWAYS install waterfox... Although i don't set it as the primary browser... I still use IE9/10 as they are both faster and frankly never really run into an issue.. Waterfox is only there for an alternative as some people have this weird idea in their head that IE anything is the devils browser and thinks anyone that uses it are complete tools/idiots/should die in a car fire. As snappy as waterfox is.. specially over firefox..... it still simply cannot TOUCH ie. The only time i see ie is slower... is usually because someone decided it'd be a great idea to bloat it up with addons.... Mind you if you do the same exact thing to firefox.. it responce in the same if not in some case, WORSE than ie does. A lot of webmail used by cheap bastards that think their methods are best..... like most ISPs and companies that purchase horribly coded and terribly maintained mail server systems.... just REFUSE to work with IE9/10.... this is where waterfox usually works.
