NVIDIA Appointment Information and Pictures from CES 2006

One of the most talked about items during CES 2006 was NVIDIA's unveiling of their new QUAD SLI graphics display system - featuring 4 separate graphic card processors (GPU's).

I examined the new Dell superbox during my appointment with NVIDIA. It has a reference motherboard from Nvidia. The video cards have two PCB's and two coolers each. In totality, with the 4 GeForce 7800 GTX 512 MB chips (four G70 chips) you have a whopping 2 GB of total graphic memory. You will be able to run to drive a display at 2560 x 1600 with no problems at the highest settings.

The way this setup works, is that the video cards are interconnected inside, with only the master card plugged into the PCI Express slot. This way the mobo only needs 2 PCIe slots onboard.

If you look closely at the pictures I've attached below you'll see that boards are configured in a father and daughter board fashion. Only the father board plugs into the actual PCIe slot on the motherboard. The SLI bridges connect the fatherboard bridges together, and the 2 daughter boards are connected in a similar way.

Please follow this thread into the forums to view the pictures and discuss... thanks!

Holy crap on a stick! So the daughter boards just float?

Are the father/daughter boards interchangeable?

Looks like the daughter boards would have some cooling issues, if equipped with a fan... Pics aren't that detailed for breakdown...

Sorry some of the pics aren't better - I only had a very limited time in which to even try to take pictures and I was being spoken to by Nvidia at the same time, so best I could do in a rushed situation.

I dont like one think about this setup - Intel CPU. It surely is a great CPU but you can do much better with AMD these days. And its meant to be the most powerful desktop machine on earth, aint it?

The new P4 955 EE is very, very fast, and, anyway, it's a Dell so it has to be a P4.

Hell I don't mind just give it me. Hmm, downpayment for a house, gold junk Voodoo Machine or the most blistering fast PC ever.

Let's take a peek under Nvidia's QUAD SLI hood in the following 3 pictures:

Here is a look at the board from the side:

Dell will be rolling out a highly customized XPS 600 Renegade system with retail supply expected sometime in May according to Brian Burke from Nvidia. This sytems does feature the 4 seperate GeForce 7800 GTX vidcards sporting 512 MB memory apiece, atop an NForce4 SLI 16 lane Intel Edition mobo. The system is proposed to run with a new P4 EE 955 CPU, 2 GB of DDR2 667 MHz memory, and a custom paint job and autograph on the finished design.

I snapped this spy shot of the internal QUAD SLI setup inside the new Dell XPS 600 Renegade system.

You can see a gallery of pictures from Dell of the upcoming system and more system information here

Nvidia was really pushing high definition gaming at CES 2006, with H.264 acceleration and PureVideo.

One HP system was running a demo of Toy Story using H.264 and PureVideo below:

Finally Nvidia had a Toshiba Qosmio laptop, with a GeForce Go 7600, that will be available this spring, with a HD-DVD drive. It was very impressive to see the quality of the display in person.

Here's a closeup view of the new Toshiba Qosmio laptop with HD-DVD drive. Of course looking at Nicole Kidman in the Interpreter is never a chore!

I like this setup vary much, drool...

Gigabyte came out with the Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal not to long a go.
http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/10/...e_motherboard/
But I think you get two sets of SLI, not all 4 cards runing SLI.

Kind of related but still interesting. http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/01/11/gigabyte/

And my all time favorite:
