Toshiba Audio Driver Problems

Hi every one! I am new to this forum so please bear with me.
I have just purchased a Toshiba P105-s9339 laptop with Vista (yuk for now). I installed windows XP Pro and have been fixing all the drivers. All is well with the exception of the Audio stuff!
I have installed the drivers (Conex HD & Others) but I am unable to get sound. When the computer boots I get two (2) error messages; "Can not get read handle" and the other "can not access volume control". All of my drivers and devices are loaded but on the control panel I can not turn on the sound.

Can anyone help me with this or maybe gone thru this same problem?

Thanks in advance...

First up, welcome to the forums!

Have you tried reinstalling the UAA driver? Most software audio being supplied these days require that Microsofts UAA (Universal Audio Architecture) driver be installed first before the devices will work. This driver is similar to the WDM driver, however this one covers all software audio devices, including modems, and sound cards. If anything, I would try installing that driver (or reinstalling it again), then reinstalling the sound card driver if it doesn't kick in.

You can find that file HERE.

Dear TipStaff I was uable to come back to this site, my wi-fi took a dump on me!! Well I have made it back. Thanks for the response. I followed your link to the file and I can not see a "Down load" for this driver. Last night I did a complete erase of the harddrive and reinstall on my Windows XP pro (sp2). Still no sound. Today I am trying to get on the web and having great dificulty with the Wi-Fi stuff. I came into the office and connected my LAN to try to help. No Luck, for some reason I am unable to get windows updates and others. I am now on the desk computer wich tells me the LAN here is okay, it's my computer and skills that are wanting....
I am going to search around to see if I can locate the down load you speak of. This makes good sence to me so my quest is on. I really like my laptop but can not stand windows operating systems. It's not right that we are getting it jammed down our throats like this. At times I want to put a wooden steak thru my laptop and fed-ex it to Bill Gates!

Thanks for your help, if you have other ideas please drop me a line! Until Solidworks comes out with a Vista version of their software I am stuck trying to reprogram Windows XP to work. I wonder wich will happen first?

? Those buggers. Sorry about that. I've had that site bookmarked, but it seems Microsoft removed the link to the download on the page. There are a couple ways to get the driver, but it requires you to download the HD audio drivers from other manufacturers, such as Realtek. As part of their driver package they include the Microsoft driver.

Here's what you do: download THIS driver from Intels site (it's for Realteks HD Audio), extract it to a folder using WinRAR, and within the extracted folder you will need to dig in a couple folders like so, "MSHDQFE\Win2K_XP\us\", and you will see three files. If you are using XP with Service Pack 2, then run the one labeled "kb888111xpsp2.exe".

Mr/Ms Tipstaff:
Thanks for the link, performed the functions but still no sound, well I do get a "BEEP" on certin pop ups but otherwise no real sound. I am saving the program! It is a very cool utility. Have you herd of "SYMPLIS it"? I have just down loaded the free version and it is now checking the web for some 10 drivers I need for the computer. Not sure yet if it will work, I will let you know and here is the web address for the program; http://www.symplisit.com/en/drivermagic.html
