First up, welcome to the forum!

It should be noted that Acer tends to put up both XP and Vista drivers for quite a lot of their laptops.. even if it ships with Vista (which yours does). They know people may want to switch to XP. So, in this case, what you do is head over the THIS link. Then, pick these in order from left to right on the lower menu: under 'Product Line' choose 'Notebook', and under 'Product' choose 'Aspire 3680'. Under the 'Downloads' menu you will see a listing of different drivers you can get. If you click on some of them you will notice a window will show up at the bottom that tells you what the driver is for, but you should also notice that some say they are for XP, and others for Vista. It should be just a matter of going through the list for what you need.

BTW, if you haven't wiped out your current OS (which I gather is Vista), you may want to write down some of the key components in Device Manager, and such. Things like which sound card you have, which mouse pad is being used (such as Synaptics), which graphics, modem, memory card reader (if it's there), if you have one you will want to take note of the web cam, and so fourth. That will make things easier for you, and for us when it comes time to figuring out what exactly you need.

Also, on the 'Downloads' menu they have listed specific driver names for Vista drivers, but in some cases they have made generic, or 'Packaged' drivers for XP. For instance, there are seperate listings for the Intel graphics and nVidia graphics, and you install the one that you need. However, if you look for a listing called 'VGA Package' this includes the nVidia and Intel drivers for XP. So, again, just go through the whole list, and you should find most, if not all the drivers you need.

If, however, there are drivers that you can't seem to get from there, please post back in here, and we'll try to work out which ones you still need.

BIG ROB is on a distinguished road

Tipstaff,

I know this thread is a month old but I am having the same problems. I went to the website you linked. I downloaded the drivers. My problem is still occurring. The computer will not recognize the VGA controllers. Then when I install the intel VGA drivers the computer will hang up during a reboot.

What do I need to do?
