That was actually a good idea. I found a couple utilities that help out. I found the mouse pad diver on the manufacturers web site Synaptics :: Drivers

The only thing I need now is the driver for the keyboard so I can get my functions back (as long as I could dim the screen I'd be happy camper). If any of you could tell me who manufactures the keyboard I'd appreciate it. (It says generic keyboard in my device manager)

Pissed Oh god..

Ok. Yesterday I spent most of my day trying to find XP Drivers for my Atheros AR5007EG WLAN and Radeon x1200 driver. The rest of my working drivers worked straight from the Toshiba Recovery CD. Ok now, I found a similar Atheros driver (in Version.txt it said V 5.?.?? for Windows XP) and it worked, partially. The only fucked up problem I found was that my PC's internet was not working (the host, one with the router) after I installed this driver on my notebook. Now I've heard that this driver actually effects the Realtek Ethernet I have on my PC. Is that true? Also, I had no luck all finding XP Radeon x1200 drivers... After all that shit, I recovered back to "out of box state", having Vista back on my notebook again. Other drivers that were also missing in XP were the SM Bus, HD Audio, and Ethernet Controller (since the one I installed wasn't a fully working driver) and my Radeon x1200. Why does it have to be this way? WHY!??!!!?? LOL No wonder this 2gig notebook was only $600... Anyways now I find this bundle of drivers for my Toshiba that someone made. I do not trust it enough so I'm not going to bother wasting my time if it's not going to work 110% Yesterday I just felt like breaking my shit into pieces. We should all call Toshiba up and fuck with them to get Toshiba Satellite a215-5818 drivers for Windows XP. That is the only option I think we have right now...

The drivers found here will work, and are legit.

My Tosh is up and running 100% except for hotkeys (function buttons, F1 through F12).

You can use the video drivers on ATi's site, just install them one at a time rather than installing the suite or else you will run into an error saying that the driver is incompatible.

For Atheros just use the driver that ukmex listed.

Before you reformat again with these drivers do me a favor first (it will benefit both of us) go into the device manage and find out what the hell kind of keyboard we have, the driver name, anything you can about he keyboard. If you do that I'll do the best I can to find us a driver or utility to activate the hotkeys in XP.

I really wish some of the other people with this laptop that have posted would give us a little insight.

Hm... it says standard keyboard...

I'll try the drivers out someday... I just installed all the programs I need yesterday so I'm too lazy to do it again for XP.

System Specs

Hello, thanks for the drivers. I just bought the lap top and am trying to install XP 64 on it. Are these drivers for 64-bit or 32-bit? Also, I am having trouble with the wireless network device. It worked with Vista, but no-go with XP. The device manager tells me there's an "ethernet controller" which isn't recognized, but I don't know if that would be it. Also, its got a generic VGA driver and won't accept the ATi driver. Any help would be appreciated.

Those drivers are supposed to help you with that idk if they suppoort 64bit. I tried going back to XP but had the same problem so I went back to factory defaults (vista again) and I found this thread through Google. I havnt tried going back to XP using those drivers yet because I already installed what I needed on my laptop. I will some day when I got some DVD-RWs lol

System Specs

Hi, I'm Goncho and this is my first post here. First of all I want to really thanks ukmex for the drivers, they worked excelent!

But I've some problems. Same as Joshewah and an other ones:
  • I can't dim or brighten the screen anymore with the function (FN) button. (function isn't working at all except for the num pad)
  • With vista I was able to change power options from the battery icon in the sys tray. (power options such as low performance for more battery life, mid performance, and high performance at the cost of less battery life.) Is that a visa feature or is that a feature from one of the drivers that I may not have installed?
  • If I go to Screen Propertys and then I go to Configuration and then Advanced Options I don't have the option to use the S-VGA option to see my screen in a televition, using the SVGA uotput.
Btw, some of the drivers have installed but there are some others that I have not used because no devices recognized them:

Alps Pointing-device
AMD Low Level Device Driver
ATI IDE Controller
TOSHIBA Firmware Linkage Driver
Wireless Intermediate Driver

Can any one help me?

First of all, thank you guys for the drivers. Saved me a ton of time and headaches.

Unfortunately, even with all of these, I'm having issues with my A215.

My CD/DVD drive won't work. It worked out of the box, and worked in XP when I was dual booting XP and Vista on seperate partitions.

Now, I have deleted Vista all together and installed a completely fresh version of XP right after formatting the entire HD. The CD/DVD drive won't work at all now. It shows up fine in the deice manager as IC1142P UCE971Q SCSI CdRom Device. With "This devide is working properly." The driver is listed as version 5.1.2535.0 from 7/1/2001.

When I click "Driver File Details", the driver files listed are:

cdrom.sys
imapi.sys
redbook.sys
tdcmdpst.sys
storprop.dll

I do have a couple yellow exclamation amrks in Device Manager, however.
Two out of three listings for "Primary IDE Channel" are marked.

They say "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
I get the same message when trying to choose drivers for these devices. I have been told they could be the problem.

Any advice? Anything I can do with my Vista system restore CD short of attempting to boot from CD (which I haven't tried and probably wouldn't work)? I have the option of taking files from the disc onto a USB drive and loading them onto ym Satellite that way if necessary.

Help!

Is there any other way to adjust the screen brightness? I use my Satellite A215-S5818 running XP for school, and it's horrible on battery life. I can't find a working Toshiba Power Management Utility or hotkey drivers...

Toshiba A215-S5818 XP Drivers Needed

I have a new Toshiba A215-S5818 laptop which came with Vista CRAP preinstalled. I want to completely remove Vista and install Windows XP Home SP2. However I need all the drivers for this laptop. Atheros website provides no support for drivers and I have looked for hours trying to download XP drivers for all the hardware. I am sick and tired of Vista like many other people I wish this OS was never developed.
Can some one please help me with all the drivers I need?

I have contacted Toshiba by phone with no success and they have no support by e-mail.

Does anyone know if some of the software on the rebuild CD that came with the laptop will work with XP?

Here is what is listed in device manager that I need XP drivers for:

Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter
Realtek RTL8101E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)
Toshiba Software Modem
SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller
Realtek High Definition Audio
ATI Radeon X1200
TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L632H ATA Device
Ricoh Memory Stick Controller
Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller
Ricoh xD-Picture Card Contoller
Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
Microsoft iSCSI Initiator
And the drivers for the hotkeys to work on the keyboard.

Here is the specs of my Toshiba A215-S5818

AMD Turion 64 X2 Processor
ATI Radeon X1200 Graphics
2 Gigs of memory
160 gig HDD
Atheros Wireless

I would greatly appreciate the help!

??? Is anyone still on this thread?

Hey all. Just signed up exclusively so I could join this thread.

First off, as everyone else has said, thanks to UKMEX for the simplification of an annoying job. I've been collecting these drivers myself, but the bundle provided helps a lot.

I too am having some further issues that don't seem to be resolved by the drivers bundle, however.

Like most of you, I suspect, I got my A215-S5818 around the beginning of this year (2008). I played with Vista for about 10 minutes, and then started on the laborious process of getting XP on there, for all the obvious reasons. Initially I used XPBootPro to create a dual-boot scenario with Vista and XP. After having this setup for a while, I realized that due to Vista's extremely frustrating metadata and file table structures, I could not shrink my Vista partition past 75 gig, which is not cool at all. After running my computer this way for about 3 months, I've done enough stuff with it to realize I needed a new reboot/restructure sans Vista. I did this last night, and am working on it again now.

I have read every word of this thread, and agree that it's frustrating that none of the manufacturers involved in this fiasco really seem to care about supporting their products. But if we continue to work together on this we can at least create a viable workaround.

1) Whitelight: I no longer have Vista at all (save for the little 1.5g recovery partition which is hidden) and my CD/DVD drive seems to work fine. Have you solved your issue yet? Maybe try testing it with a variety of discs to see if any of them work?

2) UKMEX: If you're still around, please let me know if you've been able to make the touchpad utilities work. I keep trying to run the executables in the Alps folder, but it tells me that the "DLL could not be opened." I have no idea which DLL this refers to. Edit: I used the Synaptics Touchpad Utility. Works great!!

3) CCSCrabs: Start with the drivers package that UKMEX posted at the beginning of this thread. That should get you pretty far. Not all models have the exact same hardware, however, so you may need to find a couple of the components separately. I have posted a few.

Now, here are the existing and new problems I'm having:

1) HotKeys (FN keys) don't work. Edit: SOLVED!
2) There's no such thing as "Stand By" mode anymore? I was not having this issue before. This one is really confusing... Edit: SOLVED!
3) Touchpad works, but not properly (no top or side scrolling) Edit: SOLVED!

If anyone is alive here, please reply (you can email me directly) and let's get these issues resolved once and for all.

Thanks!

OK. I got ahead of myself, and after installing a boatload of crap, neglected to reboot. That solved my Standby issue.

As for the touchpad: If the Alps driver package doesn't work for you, you probably have a Synaptics touchpad. There is a link somewhere up in the thread that gets you a Synaptics driver that works perfectly. (I'm excited!)

I think this solves almost all issues except for the damn FN keys. Anyone?

Big Grin Toshiba Satellite a215-s5818 HotKey Utilities for XP - SOLVED!!

OK - Here's how you fix the FN Keys for your Satellite running XP:

1) Get this file: Toshiba Common Module. Install it. Reboot.
2) Get this file: Toshiba Hotkey Utility. Install it.
3) Hold down the [FN] key and press [F6]. See brightness level go down.
4) Smile.

With everything else in this thread, you should have a fully operational Satellite a215-s5818. I think this stuff will also work for some of the other model numbers that are close in the 21X-X series.

Good luck!

Your links don't work. please, for the love of god, upload those files to rapidshare or megaupload. Those are the ONLY files I need for a fully optimized laptop running XP... Thanks for your time and posting info to validate the operability of the Fn keys in XP.

So I saw the mess everyone was in here trying to get this to work and thought I should chip in. Joined the forum just to so.

I have the Toshiba Satellite A215-S7422 and am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 v.3311

I downloaded this package and installed all the drivers there...

: XP Drivers for Toshiba A215 - S7428 - The No-Dans Club

They worked great except for those common problem everyone seems to have here.

Then I fixed the FN keys...The only FN keys NOT working now are the F4, F8, F9, and F12. I don't even know what those do so I didn't worry anymore about them. All the rest of the FN key do work including the ones in black.

I used this driver to make that work...

Go to this page

Toshiba - Australia and New Zealand

and download

HotKey Utility....SPA210 THotkey-1.00.01-XP.exe

and then to fix the problem where the power settings reset themselves every time you unplug and plug in the computer, you need to install the...

Powersaver Utility....SPA210 TPower-Saver-7.04.02.1-XP.exe

That is available on that same page as the first utility if the above link doesn't work.

Please let me know if that helps anyone!
