So I bought the Alienware M15X Laptop...

And everything is working great. Outside of games, that is. I updated the video card drivers to 169.09, installed a few games, and everything is still running great...

But then I start a game.

So, my gaming laptop is perfect til I run a game.
Why is it no longer perfect, you ask?

The keyboard is in the Keyboard Port. I'm not sure if this is a problem that can be rectified, and if so, I'd love it if someone can help out... but, basically, double key presses (quickly) don't work. So in UT 2004, FAIL. In WoW typing to someone, FAIL. (Words like "Stuff, Jeff, Jenn, --" anything with two letters in sync with one another...

It's absolutely terrible, and it's driving me out of my mind.

Is there something I can do to fix this???
How do I use a gaming laptop where the main input aside from the mouse doesn't do what it's supposed to do?

I fail to see how the graphics card is to blame.
I am not sure what you mean about the keyboard in the keyboard port. Do you mean you have an external keyboard plugged in?
IF yes, then try to unplug it and try with its own keyboard and see if the problem remains.

I was just stating what changes I made to it out of the box.

But it's not a USB Keyboard, it's using the PS/2 interface (I believe?). It's just the built-in Keyboard of the laptop. The part about the graphics card was just the out-of-the-box change I made...

Are you saying the laptop's keyboard plugs in the laptop with an external cable?
If not, then, UNPLUG THE EXTERNAL KEYBOARD and try with just the laptop's keyboard to see what happens then.

No no no... it's the Laptop keyboard.
*just* the laptop keyboard, plugged into its OWN designated port INSIDE the Laptop, which happens to be a standard, older Keyboard board. Not a USB Line, but a PS/2-style line.
Nothing external.
Nothing changed.
Nothing at all.
It's out of the box.
It's just a regular Alienware M15X Laptop. Nothing is plugged in but a USB mouse and a power cable, and the Keyboard is just unresponsive (when typing fast). But if you type slow, it's just fine. It's just when you type fast, it won't register double keypresses, unless you're renaming files or whatnot... but the second anything intensive is activated, the keyboard turns into junk and doesn't register anything faster than 30WPM.

Well... after a great amount of hair loss, I finaly figured it out.

The O.S.D. (On-screen-display) application was the culprit to the keyboard's troubles.

If there's anyone else with an Alienware M15X out there, now you know.

Hey ExitiosuS, I'm having the same problems with my keyboard on my M15X and it's driving me INSANE! It's not even just double taps of the same key for me, but occasionally just quick strokes from key to key, which KILLS me when I'm typing an essay or something for school, because I type really fast. Anyway, how'd you fix it? You said it was due to the OSD, but I don't really know what you mean by that. If you can help me out I'll be forever in your debt!

I wish they would start supporting Vista 64 and improve their CS. It's almost like they don't want me as their customer.

I am very happy to have my money back.

I don't know, it'll take something VERY big to go through that trouble again... wow, just wow.

Their tech support, the knowledge of their staff, their willingness to solve customer issues, and the turnaround time of repairs is RIDICULOUS. :'(

Re: So I bought the Alienware M15X Laptop...

I fixed it by returning the hunk of junk. ><; lol

O.S.D. is Alienware's On Screen Display application.
Removing it fixed the issue temporarily... or well, was a band-aid solution.

On my gaming laptop, I picked up an HP DV5 unit with a 9600GT. Much better than my former Alienware.

Re: So I bought the Alienware M15X Laptop...

excellent choice..
remember
when you say Alienware, you might as well say Dell.
I am sure that for the most part they are quite nice, and all the tech whores at all the sites probably get a cherry build and beta drivers to test them with, but I am sticking with my Toshiba, even though it is the Vauxhall of the computing world in my price range, but at least it never disappoints.
