ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600

I recently got a laptop, the M-6850FX notebook by gateway, which comes with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. As I like to game, I reformatted it right away and installed xp, but now I find that the graphics card doesn't have xp drivers. I used the Mobility Modder to install the Catalyst drivers for it, and it did improve the performance of the laptop, adding new options to the display such as resolution and such. However, every time I try to launch a game, it crashes. I have tried a few games, and they return no errors, only start to make a window and then close immediately. In the tech support for one game, they told me that it was due to my graphics card drivers.

Any ideas on what to do?

EDIT: On further inspection, I believe that the game is not loading because I have no audio drivers. However, now I can't find out which drivers this laptop needs! the online specs don't specify anything, only that its high definition sound.

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

The laptop has sigmatel's audio chip. So the only one that can provide you with the driver is Gateway. So I think that you need to contact them and ask do they have XP driver for that sound chip. Do note that they intended the laptop to run Vista and so they might say that they don't provide driver for XP.

Yeah, since a lot of laptop manufacturers no longer offer XP as an OS option they also quit providing XP drivers for the reason. They don't use XP so why would they care is their basic motto. The other option is that you can tweak vista a little by running it without a lot of the system intensive stuff like aero and that sidebar thingy. I game on my laptop in my specs and it doesn't do bad. But im keeping Vista for this very reason.....HP doesn't have quality drivers for some components on this lappy so even though they offered XP I went with Vista because my XP gaming experience wasn't all that better due to the minimal effort of support files etc

Re: ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600

Hi there! My name is Andrew and I have an acer 5620g laptop, which has an ati mobility radeon hd 2600 pro card. I use a windows xp x64, so I downloaded the original driver from ati.com and modded it. It works fine but it has a problem. When I start the windows the resolution is 1024x768 and the os can not recognize the 1280x800 res. Then I always have to open the catalyst control center and set the 1280x800. When I made this and click ok in the catalyst, the windows can recognize 1280x800 resolution too.
Can everybody help me?
Thanks
jonyi
