some game testing you are doing there BM. Interesting to read.

Have you tried using the machine yet as a sole device? thats always a good test, to see if it handles everything you would normally do in a day such as for instance, now on DH with perhaps email running in the background etc.

I have to say I used one atom processor and I found it very slow, however I think if you go into these things with the mindset knowing it wont be massively responsive then you adapt pretty quickly.

I haven't tried any CD ripping or DVD ripping yet since I won't know if the external device will be to blame or the CPU or what. Plus I rarely do DVD rips and I don't plan on doing any CD rips for the next few months since I don't have any audio CD that I want to buy, or borrow etc.

With Opera 5-6 tabs, vuplayer playing mp3s in the background, a couple of text editors, OpenOffice (write) and installing a game, were not a problem for it.
I haven't tried to use it as much as my desktop (the above only with 10+ tabs for Opera, torrent program in the background (legit of course), a modern 3D game, a couple of messengers etc), but that is because I don't think it could handle them anyway.
This netbook will be my only system from the 17th of September till date unknown. I will have to wait and settle down, see how much rent+phone+bb+bills+food is going to cost me, pray to get at least some part time job, then I will know when I will buy a desktop PC. If all goes well, within this month. If not, I might have to use the netbook for at least a year as my sole computer.

I believe that as long as one doesn't think of this system as a desktop replacement or a fully powered notebook (even those with the x3100-x4500 solutions), he/she will be pleased with the performance, but "you" might want to invest in a monitor since 10.2" are just not enough for a computer to use for hours every day, no matter how great your vision is.


If I find my Blitzkrieg 2 DVD, my SWAT 4 DVD, I will try them tomorrow or on Monday. I am also planning on testing several games I bought over the years from MatrixGames that should work fine, performance wise.

I am curious about the HD 1080p video if I would see any improvement by connecting the netbook to an external monitor that can handle it. I don't know how the netbook works and if as it is, the monitor on its own doing the downscaling or the CPU or what. I have a 1080p monitor (LG 245WPM), but no VGA cable lol.


Guys, if there is any specific game or program, that you want me to test and I have it, let me know.



Zardon, from the system you have, if you haven't already, can you try it with 2GB of RAM to see if there is any performance increase worthwhile the trouble? I am thinking that the CPU and/or GPU will be the bottleneck way before RAM size ever be.

Another small game update.

Doom 3, I already mentioned how it is unplayable, but there is some hope. I found and tried a mod called Doom3todoom2. It makes graphics...look not so good...but the frame rate jumped from around 4 5 fps to 15 average. It's not pretty and it's not very smooth, but it is playable if you really want to play it.

Race Driver 3. Frame rate is not very good. It's not horrible, but I know I am not going to play the game as it is, low teens.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. The frame rate is lower than expected. Even reaching single digits at some points. The game is playable thanks to the nature of the combat.

Star Wars Empire at War. Now this is what I call surprise. I read in another review of a similar specced machine how the game won't even start. The game does warn me about having a not compatible IGP/GPU. I can still go on and load the game and...it doesn't suck. The frame rate in space battles is from 14-39!!! On land battles about 5 or so less. Still playable. I will play the game on the netbook. Even when the frame rate shows as low, it doesn't seem to affect the movement and firing of units and how that looks on the screen. In other words, the game isn't suffering that much and you shouldn't have a problem with it.

You should send me a review of the product, im sure it would make interesting reading.

As for 1080p I dont think you need worry about that, the atom processor wont handle 1080p content (even if you hooked it up to an external screen).

While I was at the hotel overnight,m I couldn't access the wi-fi network available there. It took me 5 min after I left the hotel to remember I had to also activate it with the Fn+F11 shortcut.
Anyway, Wifi works fine, at least with the updated drivers, I don't know with the default ones.

Not exactly 24mbit connection, but it works just fine.
On battery.

I watched 3 DVD movies on it and the quality of the monitor for them is something that doesn't stop to amaze me.

In theory it should work. You will have to scroll the screen to make it fit, or use an external monitor for no such problems. The max natively supported resolution of the monitor is 1024x600.
But, since I can't test the game, that is just a guess.

I have been using the netbook outside, in the local Varsity, online through their free wi-fi.
Battery life with wifi on, browsing, having opera with 4-5 tabs and internet explorer with 1 tab, openoffice quick start and occasional pdf open, i have a bit less than 2 hours battery life.

Good enough for me. Funny thing though, there are other people around with notebooks/laptops and they are all like 15" + and they look like monsters compared with this. Like something from the 80s lol.

What isn't so funny is how many times I have heard so far "oh my, it is tiny!"
