presario c793vu no audio

have recently bought presario c793vu with intel 960 chipset-preinstalled vista home basic. got rid of vista and installed xp pro sp2. everything works EXCEPT audio, "no audio device" in sounds and audio devices. installed uaa sp32646(also tried sp 31994). tried to install sp32823(conexant hd audio driver) but still no audio, "cannot find media device" warning comes up. tried everything on the net and NO SUCCESS. Anyone know how to get conexant hd audio to work on XP. absolutely desperate and dont want to use vista
