Re: Regarding the memory of HP 530

Hi there and welcome to DriverHeaven!

You can add another SODIMM DDR2 memory stick on the computer if the current configuration is one 1GB stick.

Since all the laptops in general has all parts integrated there is no way to install any other 3D card. So you are stucked with the Intal's GMA 950 chip.

The laptop has two memory slots and usually the 1GB configuration is done with just one stick of RAM. So it's easier to add more memory....

yeah, i knew that notebooks had only twos slots for SODIMM RAM... the question was more about the amount of memory that notebooks these days support... ... is it 2GB, 3GB, 4GB... ???

Perhaps you should use google and find it out for your self
The newer notebooks tend to support memory up to 4GB.

Also, don't forget: if you're using a 32 bit operating system, only 3Gb of memory is supported and recognized.

well, not exactly, 32bit operating systems supports 4GB of memory allocation space, but due to other devices taking away memory resources (most devices these days are memory mapped, not I/O mapped ), the OS does the smart thing, unmapps memory to map devices, so if you have 4GB of RAM on a 32bit OS, then the amount of mapped memory could vary form 3GB to 3.7GB, or in some cases to 3.8GB, it all depends on the devices (and their number), attached (or onboard) the mother board...

i was only asking this question cuz i know most of you guys have more info about this stuff, i would have looked it up on Google for sure if i needed it (if i had to buy a notebook, or something like that )... i was just cuirous...

The only devices that "eats" the RAM is GFX card. The others uses DMA so little that you don't really need to count it.

yeah, that is true, most of the memory is eaten up by the graphic card... but a certain amount of memory is eaten up by any other device attached to the motherboard... i have 32bit XP Pro running on a rig with 4GB of DDR2 RAM (dual channel 2X2GB), i have a GeForce 7200GS with 256MB of GDDR2, and the amount of mapped memory reported to me by the OS is 3.25GB, so with some very simple mathematics...

4GB-3.25GB=0.75GB

0.75GB-0.25GB=0.5GB

0.25GB is the ammount of memory mapping needed for the graphic card. 4GB is the ammount of memory mapping the OS can provide. so i guess the other 0.5GB (512MB) are use for mapping other devices, which is not uncountable... it's twice the size of the requirements for the graphic card... which means, the other devices take aproximately 0.5GB of allocation space...

sorry for the offtopic discussion...
