Please help... ATI PowerPlay Optimal Performance issue
I have an Acer Aspire 1694WLMi. Some specs are as follows:
Pentium M 760 2.0Ghz 1.0 Gb RAM ATI Mobility Radeon X700 The ATI PowerPlay has 2 modes: AC mode and battery mode. Each mode offers 3 settings: Maximum Battery Life, Balanced, and Optimal Performance Whenever I set my ATI PowerPlay AC mode setting to 'Optimal Performance' to run games like Warcraft III, GTA San Andreas, Soulstorm and Red Alert 3, my laptop would just shut down unexpectedly without any warning or error messages after 5 to 10 minutes of play. But when I set ATI PowerPlay AC mode to 'Balanced', I can play every game(even Crysis Warhead) for hours without sudden shut downs, although games can be a little laggy because of 'Balanced' mode. The weird thing is that my laptop shuts down suddenly in 'Optimal Performance', eventhough all game graphic settigns are set to minimum. But when I set it to 'Balanced', I can run games for hours with game graphics set to medium or high. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem and to run games in 'Optimal Performance'?I have cleaned the entire CPU thermal module (fan+vents, removed the dust) but to no avail. How about setting the GPU to a particular clock speed? Will that help? Any suggestions is very much appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: Please help... ATI PowerPlay Optimal Performance issue
Hello, I had the same problem with x1600 on my HP nc8430. I solve this problem.. the AC adapter with 65W was poor, with 90W its okay.
Maybe this suggestion will help you. (sry for my poor english )

it could also likely be heat related..... they could be getting to hot and shutting down to prevent damage..
i would suggest getting the laptop cleaned to see if that resolves it.
