The best thing to do (for now at least) is to uninstall the Sigmatel drivers from within Add/Remove Programs, reboot, cancel the "Found New Hardware" installer when you do, and then reinstall using the drivers from HERE.
Of note, when you run the installer for the driver, which first extracts to a folder called off your C:\ drive called "C:\dell\drivers\R171789", or if you extract the exe file manually to a folder (which can be done using WinRAR or 7-Zip), you will find that sthda.sys file in a sub folder called "WDM". I still recommend uninstalling, then reinstalling the audio drivers though just in case something else related to the sound driver is missing. |
