Sad need help: Too much hard disk usage

Hello all!

I need help, I have recently bought an HP Pavilion dv4-1220us Laptop.
After using it alot, I have found that it get stuck every few minutes because of too much HD usage. I tried Uninstalling alot of programs that came with the pc but it seems that it doesn't help.
I am using Vista Home Premium and just can't find the reason for that.
Tried Defrag and Error check by Windows and no results so far...

If anyone had a similar problem or knows how to fix this, PLEASE let me know, it drives me crazy!
Thanks alot!

Re: need help: Too much hard disk usage

both the search function and the superfetch service have both caused, in my experiance with my desktop, alot of hdd chatter. especially after reboot.

are you at all familiar on how to disable and re-enable these features?

Re: need help: Too much hard disk usage

System restore/shadow copy/indexing service causes considerable amount of hdd activity, but only mainly when idle. If the HDD usage is really driving you crazy then you can disable them, lower volume shadow copy size. Without knowing what's preinstalled on your laptop and being unfamilar with HP, that's all i can say.

Re: need help: Too much hard disk usage

Thanks guys!
It all helpd.

I have found out that the software MediaSmart that came with the Laptop by HP is using WAY too much HDD and RAM, so, first I uninstalled them. Second, I searched google for "Vista 64 services" and found a nice site that gives three options for any PC with Vista:
Safe, Tweaked, and Barebone. changing the setting on my PC to SAFE made the HDD use to stop almost completely. strongly advise other with proplems the same to go there and check it

Thank you all for the help!
