How to view on TV from my laptop.

Got myself a new Laptop today, my first ever!

Now I'm trying to figure out how to view movies and such on my TV with it since it doesn't have TV-out.

It has HDMI and VGA but the problem is that my TV has neither. All I've got on there is a SCART where I now have a SCART-SVHS adapter. It's to old to have HDMI and it doesn't have VGA either...

So, any ideas on how to do this, is it at all possible?

Re: How to view on TV from my laptop.

You will need a VGA to scart converter such as this PC VGA XGA to TV Video NTSC PAL SCART Scan Converter !! on eBay, also Other, For Desktops, PC Components, Computers Networking (end time 28-Feb-09 03:45:37 GMT)

To be honest its not ideal, because the resolution will be poor and its going to be a converted analog signal. You really want to be making use of that HDMI connection on the laptop. Obviously this requires a HDMI capable TV but the benefits will be massive. full HD support. digital sound. huge improvements all round.

Can't afford a new TV as well right now but that's my next item to get.

Will the picture quality be worse than when I use the TV-out (SVHS) on my stationary with HD3870X2?

Your TV doesn't happen to have a set of RGB (red blue green) RCA connections named Component on it does it?

If it does, some VGA to RGB adapters work quite well but require the video adapter to support pal/ntsc support out the box through VGA.. (quite often ATI's have no problem, not to sure about nvidia though, or intel)

Re: How to view on TV from my laptop.

No, besides two scarts on the back it only has the red, white and yellow audio/video on the front.

Found a cheaper VGA-SVHS converter on a local store. Not cheap but cheaper than the one Zardon linked to.

If the picture quality is the same as I get with the TV-Out on my stationary this is a better solution since the laptop is silent. My stationary is just to noisy it takes away some of the joy of watching a movie.

I don't have the tools to do it so it'll probably cost me more in the end like that.
