Sleep or not sleep...
A number of times now I've sent my Fujitsu-Siemens 3530 to sleep, only to hear it wake up half an hour or so later. Last night this happened. Sent it to sleep mode, went to bed and after a while I heard how the dvd revved up and I heard sounds like someone logging on to msn.
Why is it doing this? How do I avoid this in the future? This is my first laptop ever so I have no experience with how these things really work. |

Re: Sleep or not sleep...
I'm a fan of "running" or "off" with no hibernation and no sleep.
The only time sleep/hibernation occurs with laptops that i setup is when it's running on batteries... and you close the lid or leave it for a certain period of time.. otherwise i recommend that it be shutdown when it's not going to be in use for a extended period of time.

Re: Sleep or not sleep...
I think so too and that's what I generally do but I still want to know how it can wake up by itself like this.

Re: Sleep or not sleep...
i'm not sure..
i haven't seen any of the laptops i've sold do this... the only thing i HAVE seen is a computer, laptop or desktop, after being in a running condition, go into screensaver mode.. then turn off the monitor.. suddenly come out of it for no apparent reason and never go back into that mode. but coming out of sleep or hibernation.... i've always had to push the power button.

It is strange yes, I'll see if I can figure it out.

Re: Sleep or not sleep...
could be some sort of a potentially harmfull software (trojan, worm...)... the fact that when the notebook "wakes up" form a hibernative state and tries to log on to some kind of a messenger leads me to believe that... but then again, it could be some sort of a setting in the OS...

Re: Sleep or not sleep...
Not sure on Laptops but I have seen options to wake on events from LAN in Vista (S3 state).
Try unplugging your inet next time and see if that stops it.
