??? Laptop recommendation for my mate please?

My mate's looking for a laptop for general use. He doesn't want to play games on it, but he's a photographer and wants it to run the latest edition of Photoshop with ease. He's also quite impatient so wants it to be nice a quick from the off - quick loading times, both on startup and when loading applications.

Although he's specified a laptop, appearance and weight are not an issue.

His budget is £400, possibly stretching to £500.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I find the Acer Aspire 7720z is excellent.... for the price... nice big crystal clear picture and whatnot.... obviously that would be a base model to look at.

And thankfully they sell that model in the UK too. Only issue is that the CPU might be a little low (T2310, 1.6Ghz) for photo editing.

Another line from them I sell a lot of is their the Extensa 5630 series, but they are 15.4". They usually sit around £400 and £500 for ones that come with decent processors within the Penitum Dual-Core/Core 2 Duo range including processors like the T3400 (the 5630Z-342G16N usually sells for less than £400 including VAT), T4200 (if you can still find them), T5800, and T6400. Sometimes you will find ones that come with the T6400 at around £500 including VAT, but most times they are priced higher. Of note, whenever I buy them I usually get the models that have Vista Business pre-installed as they include XP Pro discs (it should be the same with you guys in the UK).

Re: Laptop recommendation for my mate please?

yeah the cpu is a little low on the 7720z .... but considering... it's a pretty good all round laptop....

My sister used it for awhile for her graphic works.... slap 4gb of ram in it and windows 64bit vista and the sucker does very well (even if the webcam doesn't work at all with 64bit windows.... Acer refuses to support it)

Otherwise installing 32bit vista with 4gb results may vary.

But the laptop does run cool and i've yet to have anyone complain about it.
