well, got my first laptop last December, it's an Asus N80Vn-X1 (specs at the left) and i've been doing some gaming frequently on it, so far it's great...
last night i ran RealTemp while playing, and when i finished, one core reached 86 degrees, while the GPU got around 65-70!!! (Celsius) read on some sites that reaching those temps could be dangerous... is that true? am i doing irreversible damage to my CPU/GPU? so far, no reboots or temperature problems but... i don't wanna have some later ![]() thanks in advance |

Re: Laptop temps?
85 is alot. 75 degrees is safe, but not for 24/7. Try running IntelBurn Test and post your results.
You can even try undervolting. It helped me achieve 6-8 degrees lower temps. And another 2-3 changing the thermal paste.

Re: Laptop temps?
thanks...
update, just reached 90 degrees!! ![]() i've just read that IntelBurn Test could damage as well the CPU... what should i do? thanks again UPDATE: Asus NB Probe said "CPU Temperature: Normal" (software bundled) while RealTemp said it reached 90 degrees... weird... (see pics) ![]() ![]() still, no reboots or other problems... could it be Real Temp giving out bad readings? thanks again

Re: Laptop temps?
yet another update...
SpeedFan readings tell me that both cores are always below 60 degrees and it throws this "Temp1" that stays at 75... while RealTemp says 70 on both cores... i believe SpeedFan readings are the right ones since i haven't got a single reboot, BSOD or other thing that could make me think it's overheating... please tell me if i'm missing something important about all of this... thanks in advance |

Re: Laptop temps?
When you reach those temps, is the laptop hot if you touch it?
Here is te link for Intelburn test. You can also try RightMarks CPU clock utility for undervolting, which should help alot if you know how to use it. If I had similar problems, and my notebook was still under warranty I would RMA it ASAP.

Re: Laptop temps?
nope, it's just warm...
i was playing a bit with SpeedFan on background and the highest reading was 75 degrees per core... i've read here that it's safe if temps are between 60 and 80 degrees and about undervolting, i'll lose CPU speed if i do it right? and how safe is that, is there any risk involved? thanks again! |

Quote:
The Intelburn test will help you test the stability. If it passes, you can lower your voltage, if it hangs you'll have to set it one step back. About Intelburn test ruining CPUs is just a hoax. I use it on all computers I work on for stability tests and haven't had any problems.

Re: Laptop temps?
ok, ran IntelBurn, passed 100% tests (5 runs) and the max temp reached (measured with Hardware Monitor) was 84 degrees per core...
right now i'm reading a guide to undervolting here... let's see how it turns out... |

Re: Laptop temps?
amazing... just AMAZING!
i've just successfully completed the undervolting process! ran IntelBurn again (5 runs) with 1.05V (lowest value possible) and HwMonitor said the CPU reached 73 degrees max!!!!! no BSODs, no hangs, no NOTHING!!! ![]() this will extend my laptop's lifespan right? ![]() thanks a lot Partizan for all your help!
