My laptop freezes and has a very loud voice

Hi,
I am Nawaf. I am happy to be a member here.
I have a problem with my DELL inspiron 1520 when it become hot.

The problem:
My computer hangs up (freeze) and has a very loud voice when it become hot. It can not be turned off by pressing the power button; so I unplug the cable or the battery to turn it off. I tried to solve this problem by going to the maintenance store and they changed the HD but the problem still in my laptop.
This problem happened after I changed the operating system from Vista to XP profesional SP.3.

I wish any one can help me because I can not take my laptop anywhere.
Thank you, I appreciate your help.

They changed the HD? LOL I hope you didn't pay for it.
I can't think of any reason the change of OS would cause this, perhaps coincidense.
As you said it sounds like an overheating. Make sure there is nothing blocking the vents and the air flow around the laptop at all times. The loud noise is probably coming from the graphics card fan. Also, bare in mind that certain Nvidia cards for laptops were having (still do?) some problems, so you might have one of those unlucky ones.
Can you take it to an official Dell service?

Re: My laptop freezes and has a very loud voice

It sounds like something related to the motherboard, take it back and tell them they were WRONG and the HD DID NOT FIX IT. and they need an actual TECH to fix it, and get their head out their arse. Frick I hate these places, they give Techs bad names.

Clearly it's freezing, so overheating or something went bad. .... If it's warrantied, make sure they Actually test their work, hell ESPECIALLY if it's not warrantied.

Bluemak he said loud voice, I had a freeze with a soundcard drive that was like a screech, but I think its something else on the notebook.

Re: My laptop freezes and has a very loud voice

blueMak ..
I told them that "the problem is not from the HD" but they still saying that

About the overheating, I am sure that the air flow around the laptop all the time. The sound like the voice of the machine gun LOL so that I thought the problem is from the Nvidia card or the BIOS because that voice is not the fan voice.

The laptop is not warrantied so that I tried to find a solution here.

Thank you blueMak, I appreciate your help.

Re: My laptop freezes and has a very loud voice

So the sound is coming from your speakers?

When you downgraded to XP might you be missing some system drivers that control fan speed, Temp management, etc. That could be what's causing the overheat issue.

Re: My laptop freezes and has a very loud voice

yes Tyrsonswood .. it seems that the voice is coming from the speakers. Is it possible that the problem is from the Nvidia card drive, touch pad drive or soundcard drive ? if yes what can I do to fix this problem given that I am sure that all drivers I installed are correct and complete ?!

Thank you so much Tyrsonswood for your help

Re: My laptop freezes and has a very loud voice

Does Dell have XP specific drivers for this laptop, or have you been scrounging around trying to find stuff that works? The overheat is the problem, why it tries to access the soundcard at lockup would be a secondary issue.

Will it run long enough to get some temps and fan speed info?
