soundMAX integrated digital HD audio drivers
i just bought a fatal1ty headset and now im experiencing some minor problems with my sound. obviously the soundcard makes them since i installed the newest software and drivers for the headset.
until now i was using the driver i got from my notebook's download page by HP, version 5.10.1.5220 from 05.02.2008. now i looked through the net and found quite a lot of these soundmax drivers, but im not sure which one to take.. i learned that the 6.### drivers are for vista, and the 5.10.02.### drivers are for xp x64. so i need a 5.10.1.#### one (using winxp pro sp3), preferably newer than 5220. now on the page i found them (www.versiontracker.com), there are quite a lot of these drivers (218 to be exact) and sorting them by the release date confuses me a bit, since the newest 5.10.1.#### driver is 5.10.1.5860, but a bit earlier 5.10.1.6110 was released. so which is the newest one? and all are from 2008.. are there really no newer ones? on the official soundmax page there are none, even no support section. the device id is HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_11D4&DEV_1981&SUBSYS_103C30C5& REV_1002\4&1D8C0F4E&0&0001, since one cannot identify the exact device from the name. anyone any idea? thanks EDIT: HPC_5860_1_XP_32_REF says unsupported hardware.. EDIT #2: used the experience from modding drivers for ati mobility gpus and copied the devices from hp's softpak for installing my soundmax driver into the inf file of that 5860 driver above, installed it through the device manager and it seems to work. lets see how well.. EDIT #3: a look at the device manager now makes me look stupid.. the version of my driver is now 5.10.1.5180, which is the older one offered on hp's page, although i installed the 5.10.1.5860 modded inf file. any ideas? Re: soundMAX integrated digital HD audio drivers
now i found a page that seems to offer modified soundmax drivers to work with my device (1981), but since i would have to pay for that and on each page there are testimonials by "users" telling about having solved all problems using drivers from that page im not quite sure how serious this is..
http://download.driverguide.com/driv.../d1407880.html unfortunately, googling "SoundMax_1981_5.10.5870.rar" only brings me back to that page, so i suppose this download doesnt really exist but is just meant to bait people to pay for that site.. |

Re: soundMAX integrated digital HD audio drivers
solved.
i got the 5870 driver from that page and it installed. these seem to be the most recent ones. ill take a look at the inf file, maybe ill learn how to mod future drivers in order to be compatible with 8510p. |

![]() in any case, i'm glad you had the problem solved, if you mod the drivers to be compatible with your HP notebook, post it here...

Re: soundMAX integrated digital HD audio drivers
thanks, i actually didnt have to mod it, since this SoundMax_1981_5.10.5870.rar from that driverguide page
is the original 5870 driver, already modded for my 8510p notebook's 1981 soundmax device. these adi soundmax drivers all seem generic, but the subvendors mod them then to be used with their notebooks (or desktops) only, so each of them is actually compatible with every soundmax audio device, but modification is required, if the certain version one wants isnt already offered by one's notebook manufacturer. now ill take a closer look at the modification in order to be able to mod the next release by myself. but actually i think thats not necessary anymore, since this seems to be the most recent xp driver and even this is already quite old, so i dont expect new drivers to come. but at least far newer than the most recent one offered by HP ![]() but if anyone would like to install 5870 on a device which the original 5870 installation says is unsupported, a look at the modded 5870 could be helpful in order to mod the original one correspondingly. i think the only problem is the subvendor. for hp now i have the modded one, for other notebook manufacturers one has to look at "their" factory-modded drivers, and then apply the same modification to the 5870, which is the most recent one for now (for xp 32bit). EDIT: 5870 works perfectly for my 1981 device now. i even have some more features not offered by the 5220 version provided by HP for my notebook. thats the proof that these all are generic drivers, suitable for all soundmax devices, only the subvendor (ie. notebook manufacturer in that case) causes compatibility issues where there actually shouldnt be any..
